🚧 UPDATE: COLNE HIGHWAYS WORKS 🚧

Following the meeting that Cllr Marion Atkinson and I had with Lancashire County Council Highways, I wanted to provide residents with an update.

I believe in full transparency, so below are some of the concerns we raised. These concerns have come directly from residents across Colne, as well as issues we have identified ourselves as councillors.

We will continue to monitor these issues closely and hold the relevant teams to account.

🔹 Deliveries to Bees Knees – Colne Lane
Concerns were raised that delivery vehicles could obstruct traffic, particularly buses travelling along Colne Lane. Design engineers have been asked to review the delivery arrangements and available carriageway space if vehicles continue to stop where the parking bays have been suspended.

🔹 Water pooling outside the library
Concerns were raised about water pooling at the bus stop outside the library. Highways have confirmed this issue has already been captured within the design, following input from the Area Engineer. The area will also be monitored after the new surfacing is completed to ensure the problem is resolved.

🔹 Coaches stopping on Craddock Road
We raised concerns about National Express coaches reportedly stopping on Craddock Road, particularly when the road becomes two-way and there is only one traffic lane in each direction.

Highways have advised that they were not previously aware of National Express servicing Colne and their current website does not show a Colne stop. They are looking into which coach operator is using the location and, if confirmed, will contact the operator to see whether alternative arrangements can be made.

🔹 Market Street bus stop
The remaining bus stop on Market Street, adjacent to the library, will be used by the 60, 60A and 68 services. Other services travelling along Market Street may also use this stop to pick up or drop off passengers before continuing to Colne Bus Station.

🔹 Windy Bank bus services
The 60, 60A and 68 services will continue to use Windy Bank. Highways have confirmed this will be the smaller Vision bus that was discussed at our meeting.

These are important changes to Colne's road network, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.

If you have any concerns about the works or notice issues once the changes are implemented, please get in touch.

We will continue to raise residents' concerns and push for the best possible outcome for Colne.

🚧 PROPOSED ROAD CLOSURE – COLNE 🚧

Please see details of a proposed temporary road closure on Skipton Old Road and Bent Lane, Colne, from 8th October 2026.

The closure is to enable access to a joint box for cabling works, which will be carried out by Sunbelt Rentals Ltd.

I’m sharing this so residents and motorists in the area are aware and can plan ahead. Please allow extra time for your journey and use alternative routes where possible.

I’ll keep residents updated with any further information I receive.

Important news from Trawden Clerk! Please be careful on your journey.

I have emailed Highways and requested a meeting ASAP, because this simply cannot keep happening.

I will be inviting the Clerk of Trawden Parish Council, along with the relevant ward councillors, so that we can work together to get answers and find a solution.

This isn’t about politics — it’s about doing what is best for Trawden and its residents.

I am determined to assist in every way I can and will continue pushing until we get the action this community deserves.

Working hard for Colne 🚧

On Monday afternoon, Cllr Marion Atkinson and I held a meeting with LCC Highways officials to discuss the ongoing works in and around Colne.

We raised several concerns and highlighted flaws in the current plans that we believe need addressing. We were assured that these issues will be looked into and rectified.

We also raised concerns about the parking bays on Lord Street. We were advised that these bays are TEMPORARY and are only in place while the works around Lord Street are being carried out. Once those works are completed, parking will return to normal.

We also raised potential issues with the new two-way traffic system and were assured that any problems identified will be addressed.

We will continue to keep a close eye on the works and make sure residents' concerns are heard.

Your Reform county councillors are working hard for you — all year round. 🇬🇧

NEWS: Work is due to begin on the next phase of improvements that will bring all bus services serving Colne town centre into the upgraded bus station.

Buses will be able to access Colne bus station from all directions, meaning all services serving the town centre will operate from a single location. This will make it easier for passengers to change services and access real-time travel information.

📍Craddock Road will be converted to two-way traffic between Colne Lane and Skipton Road/Keighley Road, allowing buses to access the station from the east.

📍New traffic signals with intelligent bus priority will be installed at the junction of Market Street, Skipton Road, Keighley Road and Craddock Road.

📍Improved pedestrian crossing facilities and a 7.5 tonne weight restriction on Windy Bank to prevent larger vehicles using the route.
