The 2026 Summer Reading Challenge theme is Read to the Beat. which is delivered by The Reading Agency in partnership with public libraries and powered by Universal Music Group UK.
The theme inspires children to explore the connection between stories and songs, discovering how reading and music both ignite imagination and creativity. 🎵🎤🥁🎻🪉🪘🪇🎺🎷🎸💃🕺
To complete the challenge, all you have to do is do at least six tasks from the booklet over the summer, and receive a certificate for your achievement.🎉
To sign up to the challenge please visit the library to complete a sign up card and receive a challenge pack, starting Monday 22nd June.

We had a surprise visitor to Bookbug this morning and he stayed afterwards to browse the children's section and take out some books! It just goes to show ...you never know who you might run into at the library!

Tonight at Traditional Arts and Crafts Group we made some wonderful bookmarks using newspaper cut outs and paper scraps. If you would like to come along too, the group runs on Mondays at 5:30pm for 11+ 🎨✂️🌟

Join us in celebrating Make Music Day at Newington Library on Monday 22nd June at 6pm for a laid-back chat with Nobby Clark, the original lead singer of the Bay City Rollers. Hear all about his life in the music business and get a glimpse into his autobiography straight from the man himself.

Whether you're a long time fan or just curious about the music scene, this is a great chance to hear stories and insights from a true rock legend in an informal setting.
