Hi-Vis Fortnight – Help Spread the Word! 📢👀
Every hour, someone in the UK loses their sight. Currently, around 2 million individuals are living with sight loss, and projections indicate that this number could potentially double by 2050. Therefore, it’s crucial to reach out to those in the community who could benefit from the diverse content and activities offered by libraries 📚💛
As we celebrate the National Year of Reading 2026,
it’s time to Go All In! 🎉📖
Reading is known to broaden horizons, sharpen intellects, and ignite creativity ✨🧠 However, many of us are not dedicating enough time to it. Could you assist in connecting a friend or family member experiencing sight loss to the transformative power of reading through the library’s accessible resources?
Whether it’s large print books, audiobooks on CD, or our extensive selection of digital audiobooks and ebooks, everyone deserves to experience the joy of books 📖🎧💙

Whitby, you’ve done us proud once again!
As part of Volunteers’ Week, we invited customers into our crafting room today to give their time and create Christmas cards for our Home Library customers… and just look at everything you made!
Thank you so much for giving your time so generously — our housebound customers (and all of us here) truly appreciate it.

The 2026 The Wilbur and Niso Smith Foundation Adventure Writing Prize short list has been announced! Six expansive novels reflecting the many places adventure can be found. The shortlist was selected by a panel of 35 dedicated librarians and library staff from across the UK, including two of our very own library staff from North Yorkshire Libraries (Whitby Library & Ripon Library!) ✨
So, why not and reserve and borrow one of these books up from our library? 📚

This Volunteers Week we are saying a huge thank you to our incredible library volunteers for everything they do. 🍰☕️
THANK YOU!!!

We are also inviting others to get involved and give volunteering a try. Even a small amount of time can make a big difference, come and join us and help spread some kindness.

Friday 5th June between 10am-4pm come along and make some Christmas cards for our Home Library customers. Give as much time as you can - even half an hour would make a lovely card for someone at Christmas time and really make a difference.
