Thank you to everyone who came to our Earlsheaton Ward Forum on 14th October.

It was great to see our residents there and to hear their views, concerns and ideas about the local area.

SAVE MIRFIELD – NO WAY, BELLWAY! 🚫🏡

On Sunday 11th October, Cllr James O'Leary and Cllr Matthew Maude attended the Save Mirfield demonstration in opposition to the proposed Bellway development on Balderstone Fields 🌳.

This site has seen planning refused on five previous occasions over almost 30 years. Local residents have worked tirelessly to protect their community and defend our diminishing Green Belt 🌿.

We believe residents deserve to have their voices heard 📣.

Protecting our communities, preserving our local identity and making sure development is right for the area matters ✅.

👏 A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PUPILS OF GOLCAR JIN SCHOOL!

Yesterday, Cllr Mark Smith and Cllr Michael Simmons visited Golcar JIN School on Manor Road to celebrate the pupils’ fantastic achievement in earning Democracy Friendly Status — recognition of the positive difference they are already making in their school and wider community.

The pupils showed real initiative by identifying an issue they wanted to improve and taking action to encourage people not to litter. By creating and putting up their own signs, they demonstrated community pride, personal responsibility and the importance of turning good ideas into action. 👏

“It was wonderful to meet such enthusiastic young people who are learning how to use their voices, work together and make a meaningful contribution to the place they call home.”

Cllr Smith presented the award plaque to one pupil who has been involved since Year 3 and is now in Year 6 — a brilliant example of how commitment and confidence can grow over time.

At Reform Kirklees, we believe strong communities begin with our families, schools and younger generation. Helping children understand local democracy, take responsibility and play an active role in their community is a wonderful investment in the future.

A huge well done to all the pupils, teachers and everyone at Golcar JIN School who helped make this achievement possible. You should be incredibly proud! 💙

❤️ Celebrating the people who make our communities stronger!

Thinking of our principles of putting Kirklees Citizens first and Creating Civic Pride

Cllr Jane Barraclough recently visited Activities 4 All Windy Bank Community Centre in Gomersal and Liversedge Ward to meet Sandra Wood and her brilliant volunteer team.

From coffee mornings, craft clubs and photography classes to youth activities and golden oldie bingo days, the centre brings people together all week. 👏

🍞 The Bread and Butter Thing provides registered residents with food bags for just £8.50, helping families access affordable essentials. Volunteers are needed to help run the service—please get in touch if you can help!

Jane will return on 21 October to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raise funds through raffle ticket sales.

Thank you to Sandra and all the volunteers for everything you do. Your community spirit makes a real difference!

💥 WE ARE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT OUR REFORM UK ADMINISTRATION IS INTRODUCING A NEW LANE RENTAL SCHEME FOR KIRKLEES! 🇬🇧

We've all experienced it. Roads dug up, temporary traffic lights, lengthy delays and disruption to our daily lives.

It's time to raise standards and tackle unnecessary disruption!

✅ UP TO £2,500 PER DAY – Utility companies and contractors can be charged for occupying our busiest roads during specified times.

🚨 ZERO TOLERANCE FOR FLY-TIPPING AND LITTERING.

Cabinet Member for Place, Culture and Volunteering, Councillor Pip Harvey said we would tackle it — and we are.

The latest Greenspace Action Team Good News Bulletin shows the work taking place across Kirklees between July and September 2026, from clearing fly-tipping to holding offenders to account.

📍 7 prosecution cases
💰 £5,720 in fines, victim surcharges and court costs across those cases
🗑️ 41 environmental fixed penalty notices issued, including 18 for fly-tipping

But this is about more than statistics.

Fly-tipping damages our neighbourhoods, undermines civic pride and costs residents money. Every hour spent clearing up after irresponsible behaviour is time that could be spent maintaining our parks and green spaces.

Our communities deserve better. We want clean streets, well-maintained green spaces and residents who can take pride in where they live.

We can all play a part in tackling this. A huge thank you to every witness who has reported fly-tipping and provided evidence that has helped bring offenders to prosecution. Your actions make a real difference.

It takes all of us working together — residents, businesses, community groups and the Council — alongside proper enforcement and consequences for those who choose to ignore the rules.

We’ll keep pushing for cleaner, safer communities and better value for residents’ money.

Fly-tipping and littering will not be tolerated.
