What another fantastic today.

We started off with a great meet and greet with the Patchworkers community staff. This is integral to building better relationships with those who work on the ground in our community. 🤝

Then, off to Tolson Museum we went to meet with Ann from 🏛️

‘Tolson Memorial Museum has been the Museum of Huddersfield for over 100 years. Established during a period when Huddersfield was expanding rapidly, it was created through the enthusiasm, knowledge and generosity of local people’

Reform Kirklees support that enthusiasm and believe in honouring the wishes of the Tolson family by keeping Tolson Memorial Museum as an educational museum, for all to enjoy.

‘Are we nearly there yet?!’

No one likes roadworks. 🚧 They’re frustrating, an inconvenience, and add more time to our commutes and journeys.

We’ve all seen roads dug up, then the following week, dug up again! Why? 🪏

There seems to be lots of roadworks and maintenance going on right now-why? 👷‍♂️

Reform Kirklees believe this demonstrates how different organisations and departments are just not planning highways work in conjunction with each other. vs 🤝

Reform Kirklees believe we can do better for our residents. We believe in reducing the negative impact roadworks have on peoples daily lives by increasing communication and planning discussions between departments.

We agree with the Stop the Cuts Group where they bring an important point: for the good of Kirklees and its residents, councillors must work together.

As the largest party in the chamber by a considerable margin, Reform UK has repeatedly reached out to every political group and independent councillor to invite face-to-face discussions about the future leadership and direction of the council.

A small number of councillors whose political priorities have some alignment with our own have generally engaged positively with that approach, for which we are grateful. Unfortunately, much of the rest of the chamber, led by the proposed Green administration, has so far declined opportunities for direct personal discussion and constructive engagement.

Meaningful collaboration cannot be built through "reply all" emails, press statements, or political point-scoring. It is built through honest conversation, mutual respect, and a willingness to sit down together to find common ground.

If we are serious about protecting services, tackling waste, improving value for taxpayers and stopping cuts wherever possible, then any administration will need support, dialogue and cooperation across the chamber for the full council term. That work cannot begin after a leader is chosen; it must begin now.

This is why we continue to extend an open invitation to every group and independent councillor to meet with us in person. We may not agree on every issue, but we all share a responsibility to represent the people of Kirklees and to put residents before politics.

Our door remains open. We seek to build mutual trust.

The people of Kirklees deserve councillors who are willing to sit down together, talk openly, and work constructively in the interests of all residents of Kirklees

A campaign group has called on councillors of all parties to 'stop playing politics' and deliver on their promises

Cllr Butler on a today with traffic warden Alex.

Alex is a credit to Kirklees Council.

They discussed the main traffic and parking issues in Holmfirth, which have caused major problems, and impact residents and local businesses on a daily basis.

Often, the people who know best are those who work on the ground. Real people. Living the problems.

Cllr Butler will be submitting a report to the Service Director of Skills and Regeneration to look at finding solutions for Holmfirth and its community. Watch this space!

Reform Kirklees support many local services, and The Home Library Service is one of them! 📚

The Home Library Service is a free service delivered by the Royal Voluntary Service in partnership with Kirklees Libraries. It provides library books, audiobooks and other library materials to residents who are unable to visit their local library independently.

For many residents, the service helps them stay connected to reading, learning and their local community and alleviates loneliness.

Councillor Maciej Kapsa for Dewsbury and Cllr France visited the fabulous The Arcade - Dewsbury this week to have a nosey at their new wonderful project.

This will be a fantastic asset to Dewsbury, hopefully bringing more people to the area, increasing the local economy and supporting local businesses.

Reform Kirklees will support the Dewsbury community further by looking into offering 2hrs FREE parking for all visitors to the town centre. 🚗
