🤝 WORKING TO STRENGTHEN GEORGETOWN’S INFRASTRUCTURE

Today, His Worship the Mayor of Georgetown, Alfred Mentore, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Denese Miller and Chairman of the Finance Committee, Councillor Saul, along with members of the City Administration led by Town Clerk Candace Nelson, met with a team from Guyana Power and Light (GPL).

The discussions focused on the conveyance of land at Princes Street to facilitate the construction of a new GPL substation.

This initiative represents an important step towards strengthening the city’s electrical infrastructure and supporting the continued development and delivery of reliable utility services to residents and businesses.

The Georgetown Mayor & City Council remains committed to working collaboratively with key stakeholders to advance projects that contribute to the sustainable growth, modernization and resilience of Georgetown.

🌱♻️ ADVANCING PLASTICS RECYCLING IN GEORGETOWN

Today, His Worship the Mayor of Georgetown, Alfred Mentore, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Denese Miller and Chairman of the Finance Committee, Councillor Saul, met with representatives of the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) and its partners to discuss the Caribbean Plastics Recycling Project.

The Mayor and team were joined by members of the City administration, including Town Clerk Candace Nelson and the Deputy Director of Solid Waste.

The PADF delegation included:

🔹 Jermaine Grant, Project Director, PADF Guyana, which is implementing the Caribbean Plastics Recycling Project.
🔹 Jose Luis Guillermety, Managing Director of CircularPak, the consulting firm partnering with PADF to implement the project.
🔹 Cesar Veloza, Project Director, CircularPak.
🔹 Lalieta Somwaru, PADF Project Consultant responsible for supporting implementation of the project in Suriname.
🔹 Lidia Castro, Director of Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability (PACS) for the Caribbean Region, The Coca-Cola Company.

The Caribbean Plastics Recycling Project, funded by The Coca-Cola Foundation, is focused on strengthening plastics recycling systems, improving waste management practices and supporting sustainable solutions to the growing challenge of plastic waste across the Caribbean.

The meeting provided an important opportunity for the Georgetown Mayor and City Council to explore potential areas of collaboration and discuss practical initiatives that can enhance recycling, increase public awareness and participation, and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable city.

The Georgetown Mayor and City Council welcomes partnerships that support environmental sustainability and remains committed to working with stakeholders to build a cleaner, greener and more resilient Georgetown. 🌎💚

MAYOR ON THE GROUND — LISTENING, ENGAGING & FINDING SOLUTIONS

His Worship the Mayor of Georgetown, Alfred Mentore, visited the Alexander Street to Bourda Street area this morning to engage with vendors and address concerns raised regarding issues affecting their operations.

The Mayor was ably supported by Clerk of Markets, Mr. Sherlock Lovell, and Deputy City Engineer, Mr. Kabila Hollingsworth. Through direct engagement and on-the-ground assessment, the team was able to identify the concerns and work towards practical solutions to bring relief to the vendors.

The Georgetown Mayor and City Council remains committed to listening to citizens, engaging stakeholders and taking action to resolve issues across the city.

When we work together, we can find solutions and build a better Georgetown. 🇬🇾

🎒📚 SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS, INVESTING IN THEIR FUTURE!

Today, Councillor Alfonso De Armas proudly handed over book bags and essential school supplies to Headmistress Rowena Seymour of St. Winifred’s School in our constituency.

This initiative is part of our continued commitment to supporting our schools, assisting students and helping to ensure that our young people are prepared and equipped for the new school year. 🎓✨

🏏🏆 HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE GRAND FINAL! 🏆🏏

The Georgetown Mayor & City Council’s 184th Anniversary T10 Tape Ball Inter-Department Cricket Competition came to an exciting conclusion today, with teams battling it out for top honours, bragging rights and fantastic prizes.

🥇 CHAMPIONS — Mayor & Town Clerk Combined Team
💰 $100,000 | 🏆 Trophy | 🥇 Medals

🥈 SECOND PLACE — City Engineers Team
💰 $50,000

🥉 THIRD PLACE — City Constabulary

Congratulations to all the participating departments for displaying great sportsmanship, teamwork and competitive spirit throughout the tournament. 👏🏏

The competition was a tremendous success, bringing staff from across the Georgetown Mayor & City Council together through sport, camaraderie and friendly competition.

As the curtains come down on this year’s tournament, the departments are already looking forward to coming back bigger and better next year! 🙌🔥

🎒📚 BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPORT IN ALBOUYSTOWN!

Constituency 10 Councillor, Councillor Travis Ellis, of the Georgetown Mayor and City Council, today, August 27, 2026, hosted his annual Back-to-School Backpack Distribution in Albouystown.

The initiative provided much-needed school supplies and backpacks to children in the community as they prepare for the new school year.

Councillor Ellis continues to demonstrate his commitment to supporting families, empowering young people, and investing in the future of the Albouystown community. 🎒💙
