Vice Chair of Labour Intercultural and Wexford Equality Officer Damien Corish calls for the far right to be held accountable for their actions both here and abroad.

Corish says that,

"With the Dáil currently not in action, it is important for us not to lose sight of the actions of the far right both here and abroad, with Israel creating new laws in February, allowing for the expansion into the West Bank, when already 700,000 Israeli settlers lived there.

It is now allowing Israeli private citizens to buy land in Palestinian territory, amounting to a de facto annexation of their land and it is now being classed as an emergency by an UN envoy or in the words of minister Bezalel Smotrich who is banned from Ireland along with Ben Gvir.

"The Israeli Government was continuing the revolution in settlement policy and control over all parts of our country"

These illegal settlements are backed by the Israeli Defence Forces and the Israeli Government, where people are being forced from their homes and their lands are being confiscated under threats and violence.

We in Labour Intercultural reiterate that any Israeli Defence Force members entering our country need to be screened for war crimes and that the banning of a couple of jeering far right ministers doesn't cut it.

We have seen cases taken in Belgium and Brazil, and it is our duty to uphold international law.

While here in Ireland the far right have recently held racist protests in the west and north of the country, while pretending to care for the rights of working people, by drawing attention away from the real culprits of society's conditions, cost of living etc... This is being fuelled by pro-Israeli agitators from the UK.

While it is great to see people protest against Ireland versus Israel in sports and the selling of Israeli war bonds, we need to focus on our own national security issues in terms of the far right and the threat that this genocidal regime poses to the international community and our own. We will be working on a framework to bring to the Dail regarding the screening of IDF members entering the country before its first sitting and making sure we get a response from the minister.

We and Labour intercultural are sending our solidarity with Duncan Smith TD who is currently in Europe, with a cross-party delegation to discuss the incarceration of Daniel Tatlow Devally who is being held as a terrorist for protesting last year, while Israeli defence force members who have been complicit in war crimes against and are following orders of wanted war criminals are allowed to walk freely on Irish Street, so we are calling on government to put in place a screening mechanism to protect national security and to stop doors were perpetrated war crimes against humanity from walking freely on this earth.

We are still pushing for a screening process to be put in place where the identification and exclusion of Israeli Defence Force members who could pose a threat to Irish citizens safety or security is in place.

We are also calling for legislation to extend the ban included in the Occupied Territories Bill to cover services, as only a ban on goods has minimal impact on the economy of the IsraelI genocidal war machine. Government needs to make maximum impact on this issue.

Labour Intercultural’s AGM was yesterday evening a new year for us looking forward and with that a new executive has been put in place and some new motions passed for the upcoming years ahead.

We had great discussions on the current climate and about the reality of discrimination and racism in Ireland today. Recent events have reminded us that racism is not something that happens somewhere else or to someone else. It affects our communities, our neighbours, and our shared future.

We had a minute's silence in memory of Yves Sakila, and for all those who have lost their lives, been injured, or suffered because of racist violence and hatred in Belfast, Dublin, and beyond.

Some of the questions asked and discussed were:
How do we challenge racism when we see it? How do we support those affected by discrimination?
And how do we build stronger campaigns, stronger communities, and a stronger movement for equality?

We in Labour Intercultural look forward to the years ahead and will strive for a better more inclusive diverse Ireland based on the principles of Liberty, Equality, Fraternity and Fairness.

Still no response from Minister, Jim O’Callaghan, regarding our letter to him, requesting a screening process be put in place for possible war criminals entering the country who are members of the Israeli defence forces.

We in Labour Intercultural absolutely condemn the recent knife attack on a man in North Belfast, which has left him in a coma and would like to extend our sympathies to the victims family and hope he makes a full recovery.

We acknowledged that people are upset and horrified by the brutal attack on the man, but we must condemn the actions of those on the far right, who are using the attack to stoke up hatred and violence against the migrant community in the area.

We would like to think that a reasonable dialogue can be had regarding the issues surrounding the attack, and that a viable solution to quelling such violence can be achieved.

We are in labour and cultural seek to see an inclusive Ireland free from all bigotry, racism and violence. One that is built on the foundations of liberty, equality, fraternity and fairness.
