The WRDATF, as part of its annual Awareness Week programme, is running a webinar for parents titled Supporting your teen when they’re feeling socially excluded.
Dr. Malie Coyne, clinical psychologist and author, will discuss why belonging is vital for young people and how exclusion can affect self-esteem and mental health. She will share practical strategies to help parents strengthen communication, support resilience, and navigate the challenges of peer rejection in today’s technology-driven world. Parents often feel powerless when their teen is left out or isolated, but small shifts in listening, empathy, and validation can make a big difference - helping young people cope with the pain of exclusion and rebuild a sense of belonging.
“The good news is that belonging can be rebuilt,” says Dr Coyne. “With understanding, empathy, and guidance, teenagers can learn that rejection doesn’t define them. It's a painful but universal part of being human — and with compassionate support from caregivers, it can even become a moment of growth and resilience.”
The webinar is on 10th November from 19:00 to 20:15. The link to register is here.https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_22nJ1zaoTHyaYbI96m68Rw #/registration
