🇺🇸🇲🇬 The United States and Madagascar's Ministry of Public Health opened a new chapter in digital health cooperation this week, launching the National Validation Workshop for the Digital Health Enterprise Architecture and Governance Framework.

🔹Supported through the Department of State’s Global Health Security and Diplomacy initiative and the DataFi project, the workshop builds on Madagascar's own Strategic Plan for the Reform of the Health Information System and National Digital Health Strategy - aligning future U.S. digital health investments around one coherent national vision.

🔹Acting Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy Steven Bremner said: "Our role has been technical support, not prescription: the vision and the ownership belong to Madagascar," while stressing the value of selecting tools that are adaptable to Madagascar's own context.

🔹The partnership reflects a shared commitment - Malagasy leadership paired with American expertise – containing diseases at their source to never reach anyone else’s shores and proving that when nations invest together, they grow healthier together.

🇺🇸✍️ Yesterday, to mark the Constitution Day, U.S. Embassy Public Diplomacy Officer Kathrine Mancuso hosted an educational program on the U.S. Constitution with English teachers and students from English Language Teachers' Association of Madagascar ELTA, Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS), CNELA, English Teaching Program (ETP), and the University of Antananarivo's English Department.
Participants explored the freedoms and values enshrined in America's founding document, commemorating the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787.

This workshop offered educators a hands-on model for teaching English through civics, blending vocabulary, grammar, and public speaking skills. Teachers stepped into the shoes of their future intermediate and advanced students, actively engaging with the material as learners themselves.

A wonderful example of how language learning and civic education go hand in hand!

U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer Ryan Peseckas met with journalists in Toamasina last week to discuss their vital work and explore opportunities for continued collaboration. Peseckas commended the journalists for their resilience and dedication in delivering critical information to their communities during Cyclone Gezani.

During the meeting, Peseckas highlighted resources available to local journalists, including OPEN-MOOCS, a U.S. Department of State-supported online platform offering self-paced English-language training, as well as additional opportunities to strengthen reporting and newsgathering skills.

Jose Sabotsy, President of the Toamasina Journalists' Association, shared that the organization will mark its 20th anniversary next year. ⚫️🇺🇸 At a 25th anniversary ceremony in New York planned for September 11, the names of those killed will be read aloud. Seven moments of silence will correspond with pivotal moments on 9/11, honoring those felled that day or later by illnesses related to working at ground zero amid dust, smoke and chemicals.

Two giant beams of light that cast an image of the twin towers will return at dark, a tribute that was first displayed six months after the attacks and has returned each year since on the anniversary of the attacks.
