Peace Corps started its program in Madagascar in 1993 with eight Education Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs), who worked as teacher trainers. An Environment project was created in 1994, followed by health in 1995 and Small Enterprise Development (SED) in 2008. Today, Peace Corps Madagascar has approximately 140 Volunteers working in three sectors: Education, Agriculture, and Health. Volunteers are loc

ated in the most underserved regions of the country, living and working at the community level, where they learn and speak the local dialects of Malagasy. However, please remember that you are fully responsible for the content of your comments. Today, Nada and Sam, two remarkable Peace Corps Volunteers rang the bell, as they marked the completion of their service in Madagascar.

Arriving in February 2023 as Health Volunteers, both embraced their communities, built meaningful relationships, and made lasting contributions. Their love for Madagascar and commitment to service led them to extend their Peace Corps journey beyond the standard two years.

Nada continued serving her community for an additional year, deepening the impact of her work and strengthening the connections she had built. Sam chose a new path, transitioning to the Education sector to broaden his reach and support even more Malagasy students and communities.

Their dedication, adaptability, and passion for service embody the very spirit of Peace Corps. While their service has come to an end, the friendships, memories, and impact they leave behind will continue for years to come.

We are excited to announce another Peace Corps Partnership Program project! Volunteer Emilia will work with local educators and community leaders to host a five‑day leadership and health camp for girls ages 10–16. The camp will provide essential health education, mentorship, and engaging activities, helping girls strengthen confidence, leadership skills, and knowledge of their well‑being.

This project will benefit the community by empowering adolescent girls and building a team of trained local mentors who can continue supporting youth long after the camp ends.

On May 29, we gathered to celebrate and bid farewell to David, our Director of Management and Operations, as he officially retired after a distinguished career of service.

In a cherished Peace Corps tradition, David rang the bell, marking the end of his service and the beginning of a new chapter. Reflecting on his journey, he shared that he could not have imagined a better place to conclude his career than Madagascar.

Throughout his time with Peace Corps Madagascar, David's leadership, dedication, and commitment helped strengthen our mission and support countless staff and Volunteers. While we will miss his presence, we are grateful for the lasting impact he has made on our community.

Thank you, David, for your service, your friendship, and your contributions to Peace Corps Madagascar. We wish you all the best in your well-earned retirement and the adventures ahead! 🔔🎉🇲🇬

Today is Mother’s Day in Madagascar 🇲🇬💐 and we are celebrating the incredible host moms of Peace Corps Madagascar ❤️

For more than three decades, Malagasy mothers at our training center and at each PCV’s site have welcomed Peace Corps Volunteers into their homes and hearts.
They offer care, encouragement, laughter 😊, advice, delicious meals 🍲, and a true sense of family far from home.

These photos represent just a few among the hundreds of host moms across Madagascar who have welcomed PCVs as their own children. Their kindness and generosity create lifelong bonds that go far beyond service. 🌍🤝🏽

On May 15, the official inauguration ceremony of the Centre de Documentation et d’Informatique (Documentation and Computer Center) was held at Education PCV Hewan’s site. 📚💻

This remarkable facility is a grant project led by the PCV to help students gain greater access to books and computer resources, creating more opportunities for learning and growth within the community.

During the ceremony, Hewan’s counterpart, Onja, was awarded the very first Certificate in Classroom Practice ( CICP) from the Peace Corps Education Sector — a proud milestone and recognition of dedication to educational excellence. 🏅👏

Peace Corps Madagascar is incredibly proud of Hewan’s accomplishment and the lasting impact of this project on the community. 🇲🇬🤝

Today, on International Nurses Day, we celebrate Finaritra, a nurse working as a Medical Assistant at Peace Corps Madagascar, whose compassion, dedication, and care help support Volunteers every day across the country. 💙

Finaritra’s work includes taking vital signs, collecting blood samples, and supporting the PCMOs to help ensure Volunteers receive quality medical care and support whenever needed.
