Earlier this month, we welcomed delegates from Mauritius and Seychelles to Australia for the Regional Maritime Security Policy Canberra Fellowships Program.

The program brought together key maritime security leaders, including Major G. Wong-Pool, Director of the Regional Coordination and Operations Centre (RCOC) in Seychelles, and Mrs Fong Weng-Poorun, Secretary for Home Affairs of Mauritius, for discussions with Australian stakeholders on strengthening cooperation for a safe, secure and prosperous Indian Ocean region.

While in Perth, Australian High Commissioner Kate Chamley was delighted to meet the delegates alongside Mauritius High Commissioner to Australia, Mrs Sarojini Seeneevassen, and Seychelles Honorary Consul Patrick Barallon.

From maritime domain awareness to regional cooperation, these exchanges highlight our shared commitment to strengthening maritime security across the Indian Ocean. 🇦🇺🤝🇲🇺🇸🇨

👉 À Tuléar, Australian Doctors For Africa continue d’élargir l’accès à des services de santé de qualité. Découvrez leur impact sur les communautés locales.

In July 2026, ADFA's volunteer orthopaedic medical team travelled to Tulear, Madagascar, to support local healthcare services and strengthen access to specialist orthopaedic care. Our dedicated team included Dr Li-on Lam (Orthopaedic Surgeon), Stephanie O'Brien (Registrar) and nurses Lucy Harris, Lucy Devenish and Cherrie Genat.

Working alongside local healthcare professionals at CHU Général Hospital, they delivered services using the newly renovated operating theatre funded by ADFA earlier this year. This important milestone represents a significant step forward in expanding specialist surgical services for the local community.

The success of the mission was supported by generous donations of medical consumables from St John of God Healthcare, Bunbury and a Rockingham General Hospital. These vital contributions helped ensure patients could receive the care they need while enhancing the hospital's surgical capacity.

Une belle occasion de découvrir sur le terrain le travail remarquable d’ADFA, l’une des grandes réussites du Direct Aid Program (DAP).

Aujourd’hui bien ancrée à Madagascar, ADFA continue de renforcer durablement les services de santé. D’Antananarivo à Tuléar, où l’organisation soutient également de nouvelles infrastructures médicales, son action contribue à améliorer l’accès à des soins de qualité pour les communautés locales.

Un nombre croissant d'écoles à l'étranger sont agréées par la School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) d'Australie-Occidentale pour dispenser ce programme scolaire de haute qualité et reconnu internationalement, dans le cadre de son Programme d'éducation internationale (IEP).

Fondé sur une approche holistique de l'éducation, ce programme favorise le développement scolaire, personnel et social des jeunes, tout en les préparant à relever les défis de demain.

Australian transnational education partnerships expand to Madagascar! 🇦🇺🇲🇬

After Dukesbridge schools in Mauritius, the Western Australian school curriculum is now being delivered in Madagascar through the Madagascar Christian Academy – congratulations!

A growing number of schools overseas are being licenced by the Western Australia’s School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) to deliver this high quality and internationally recognised school curriculum through its International Education Program (IEP).

Based on a holistic approach to education, this program fosters the academic, personal, and social development of young people, while preparing them to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

High Commissioner Kate Chamley was delighted to meet H.E. Nicholas Prea, Seychelles’ first resident High Commissioner to Mauritius.

The discussion highlighted the strong and growing ties between Australia and Seychelles, and our shared commitment to addressing regional challenges and opportunities.

Australia and Seychelles share a strong interest in advancing action on climate change, the blue economy and maritime security across the Indian Ocean. We also discussed the strong people-to-people links between our countries, with many Seychellois choosing Australia for higher education and Australia proudly hosting the largest Seychellois diaspora communities abroad.

The meeting was particularly timely ahead of several important regional climate engagements, including the upcoming Pre-COP meetings in Fiji and Tuvalu and the Indian Ocean Islands Regional Climate Dialogue in Mauritius. Led by the Indian Ocean Commission in collaboration with the Australian High Commission and the United Nations, the Dialogue will bring together representatives from across the region, including Seychelles, to strengthen collective advocacy and cooperation on climate action. 🇦🇺🇸🇨

🇲🇬 Congratulations to Sarobidy Rakotonjatovo on being selected for the IORA Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP) Programme!

Sarobidy will travel to Perth, Australia, for a fully funded eight-week placement at the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre, where she will work alongside leading experts while developing her own project.

Inspired by environmental challenges in southwest Madagascar, Sarobidy’s project will explore how targeted sea urchin harvesting could support seagrass recovery and enhance blue carbon storage. Her research will draw on restoration experiences from across the Indian Ocean and contribute to a practical framework that could help coastal communities restore seagrass ecosystems while creating new livelihood and blue economy opportunities.

We are proud to see talented young researchers from Madagascar contributing to innovative solutions for a more resilient and prosperous Indian Ocean.🇦🇺🤝🇲🇬
