Waikōwhai Coast track renewal works are underway.

We're upgrading tracks and walking infrastructure across Hillsborough Reserve, Manukau Domain and Aldersgate Reserve over the coming months:

📍 Hillsborough Reserve: now until 18 December 2026
📍 Manukau Domain: 11 January to 12 March 2027
📍 Aldersgate Reserve: 15 March to 17 April 2027

Works include resurfacing tracks, improving drainage, repairing slip-damaged areas, installing new steps, boardwalks, bridges, staircases and pathways to make these popular coastal reserves safer, more accessible and more enjoyable to use.

Please follow all onsite signage and allow extra time if visiting these areas during construction. Thank you for your patience while these improvements are completed. 🌿🚶

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority will temporarily close all 14 Tūpuna Maunga, including Pukewīwī/Puketāpapa, during the Guy Fawkes period to help protect these culturally significant ancestral landscapes from fireworks-related fires.

The closures will be in place from Sunday 2 November to Wednesday 5 November, with security personnel onsite and patrols continuing in the days following Guy Fawkes.

This marks the seventh consecutive year of Guy Fawkes closures following significant fires on several Maunga.

Improvements are underway at Arthur Faulkner Reserve.

A new footpath connection between Hazel Ave and Foch Ave is being built, along with landscaping and fence upgrades.

Works are expected to finish by 23 October.

Saturday 31 October at Keith Hay Park ☺️

Join us to celebrate the unveiling of Gut Feelings - a public artwork by Louise Purvis, Peter Lange and Nick Eagles. This series of playful and thought-provoking sculptures can be experienced across five Watercare plant room locations that treat the wastewater flowing through the Central Interceptor tunnel below ground.

Deconstruction of The Whare at Monte Cecilia Park will start later this week.

The works include heritage recording, salvage of historic timber for future reuse, and reinstatement of the site once work is complete.

Work is scheduled until 30 October and park users may notice increased construction activity, truck movements via the Luck Crescent car park, temporary parking restrictions, and fenced-off work areas.

All asbestos removal will be carried out by licensed specialists with air monitoring and independent clearance testing in place.

At the Mt Roskill Library there’s some cool artwork on display by the talented tamarki at May Road School.

After months of researching their maunga, Pukewiwi/Puketaapapa, through a Tupuna Maunga Authority (TMA) Scholarship, the artwork is on display at the library 🖌️

Te Auaunga Awa placemaking update 🚶

From 12-30 October, new Te Auaunga Awa tohu (markers) will be installed at the below parks across Mt Roskill, helping tell the story of the awa while creating welcoming places to pause and connect along the pathway.

Where possible existing stones have been used as well.

The project has been developed in partnership with Mana Whenua and with input from Friends of Oakley Creek, strengthening the connection between people, place and culture.
