This coming Tuesday, we will be workshopping transport options at our Cambridge Community Board meeting. The formal part of our meeting starts at 6pm, and the workshop itself will take place afterwards. Both parts are open to the public and will be live-streamed.

Workshops were held this morning on the 26/27 Annual Plan and Cambridge Connections. You can watch the video back using the link below.

A 10.7% rate increase for the 2026/27 year remains, as per the 2025-2034 LTP. If you took waters away, the general rate increase would be 8.1%. Exercise caution when comparing Waipā to other districts and cities, as the headline rate-increase figures Councils are sharing do not compare like with like. For example, some have removed waters and depreciation from their figures, while others add on targeted rates, etc. Council staff assured elected members that all possible savings have been made to control rates. Information will be shared with the community (a media release has just been dispatched), but Council staff have determined that there is no significant change from the LTP, so this Annual Plan does not trigger a consultation process. Feel free to watch the livestream below.

The second workshop, which we didn't participate in but will be having our own workshop with staff on 19 May, was related to Cambridge Connections and, more specifically, river crossings. This is again worth watching, and we welcome feedback leading up to our workshop.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

NZTA has provided two important updates this week to be aware of - one which will affect travellers heading Southbound to New Plymouth. See below and check NZTA's website for updates.

SH1 RESURFACING: Stage 3 of the Cambridge section of the SH1 Waikato Expressway asphalting work - from Sunday 17 May to early July (weather-dependent), the southbound on- and off-ramps at Victoria Road Interchange (Hautapu) will be closed. Traffic leaving Cambridge southbound from Hautapu can detour via SH1B / Victoria Street / Queen Street / Albert Street / Achilles Avenue / Tīrau Road / SH1. All southbound traffic entering Cambridge from Hamilton must exit at the Northern Interchange and use Cambridge Road / Hamilton Road. Expect delays! https://nzta.govt.nz/waikato-works.

AWAKINO: The Awakino section of SH3 will remain closed between 7am-5pm. From Saturday, 2 May until Friday, 22 May, traffic will be convoyed through the gorge at set times overnight. Due to forecast severe weather, overnight convoys for 8 May have been cancelled. For information on the convoy timings, please copy and paste the following URL into your internet browser. https://www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz/heavy-rain-strong-winds-force-cancellation-of-some-awakino-gorge-convoys

Here are a few photos from the ANZAC Day dawn and civic services on Saturday in Cambridge, beautifully captured by Richard Lummus.

Our local commemorations were moving, heartfelt, respectful, poignant and thoughtful, recognising the lives lost in service of our freedom, and honouring those who continue to serve today.

Lest we forget.
