Today we officially opened our new Sensory Garden, a special legacy project created by our Year 6 students Ruby, Maddie and Sadie from R3.

Designed as a calm and welcoming space, the garden is a place for students to relax, practise mindfulness, explore their senses, enjoy nature, and spend time with friends. It is something our Year 6s are proud to leave for future classes to enjoy.

Thank you to all the students who supported the project through fundraising, our amazing staff for their help and encouragement, and Woody for his practical skills and knowledge to make the garden a reality.

We are so proud of our students and can’t wait to see this space enjoyed by our school community.

Summer is an ideal time for ākonga to keep building reading confidence. Even short, regular reading helps prevent the summer reading slide and supports learners to return feeling ready and connected.

A gentle reminder to whānau to visit their local public library - and discover great New Zealand books - can make all the difference in keeping reading alive over the break.

On Thursday, four of our EnviroFERNS attended the EnviroSchools Celebration at Environment Canterbury. The day was all about recognising our achievements, sharing ideas, learning from one another, and taking time to reflect. Waitākiri proudly showcased our mural project, along with the learning and purpose behind it - through a fun, interactive wetlands “Guess Who” game.

We’re incredibly proud to be an EnviroSchool and grateful to be on this sustainability journey together. Thank you for celebrating our progress and caring for our environment alongside us.
