We have this box at the school office and while there are quite a few phones in there, we would love more. This is the best way to dispose of your old and unwanted phones, looking after the environment rather than just adding to landfills. And it may lead to some rewards for the school!

This could be a great way to do some easy service for our school while your children are there performing anyway. Please consider the following request from our wonderful Friends of Waihopai.

We have been given an opportunity to sell our school cookbook at the Stadium this Thursday night in conjunction with the kids performing Jump Jam and we are looking for volunteers to help at our table.
We need some volunteers for
- set up 5-5.30pm
- man the table from doors open at 5.30pm for the duration (or part there of) of the game
- pack up at the conclusion of the game

If any one can lend some time please contact the school office with your name and phone number and we will contact you. Many thanks.

Congratulations to all of our runners who competed at the Southland Cross Country Championships at Waimumu today. It is a very challenging course with hills, streams and mud so you all coped very well. A huge p**i p**i to Mahli who was the 11 year old girl’s champion. We would also like to acknowledge Rubi who won the 10 year old girl’s race but then, due to some runners taking a different course, had her race re-run and placed 13th (quite understandably when you have already exhausted yourself). Other top 20 places were Tommy 7th, Riley 11th, and Blake 12th in the 10 year old boys. Cooper placed 17th in the 11 year old boys. Aaliyah placed 14th in the 10 year old girls. Placing in the top 20 is a real accomplishment in fields of 70-80 runners who have already placed in their own zones. Mahi pai everyone.

Yesterday the Park Syndicate ran their triathlon on the school courts with the support of the Invercargill Triathlon and Multisport Club. As part of the event, the club sponsor the ‘Mocha Rocka’ coffee and ice cream van to come and give treats to the students and their supporters. We feel very lucky that on the day the Tri Club decided to shout the entire school ice creams!!!!! How kind was that!

We were so very lucky to have Donagh Booth visit our school this afternoon to talk about the work she does with her ReBooth organisation. She and her daughter, Maddison, are true community heroes, giving up their time to show kindness and compassion to our community by giving away shoes, school uniforms and the free hiring of ball gowns and suits. Southland is so lucky to have you both. And we are so proud of an ex-Waihopai family who does so much for so many. Donagh was very moved by the school haka performed for her (and led by Ashton pictured here).

What a wonderful event our Zones Cross Country was on Wednesday afternoon. The weather was perfect, the athletes were stunning in their efforts and our community were so encouraging and supportive. Well done to everyone and good luck to those who have qualified for the Southland Championship next Friday. Great photos Jett, Reid, Piper and Millie.

Big thanks to the Southland Sharks group of Caleb, Rylan, Keylon, and Sam who worked with our Year 6s today to develop their basketball skills. They had a great afternoon dribbling, passing and shooting hoops. Next week it will be our Years 4 and 5 classes having a turn.
