The Kakanui Volunteer Fire Brigade is hosting an Open Day on October 3rd!

Come along at 10:30am till 1:30pm to;
- MEET THE CREW 🧑‍🚒
- TOUR THE STATION 🏤
- SEE OUR TRUCKS 🚒
- PLAY WITH SOME GEAR🧯
- AND MORE!!!

There will also be a Sausage Sizzle 🌭 around lunch time for everyone!

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandfathers, and father figures who serve our community and support our team!

Being a volunteer firefighter means answering the call at a moment's notice—often leaving family dinners, weekend sports, or a warm bed in the middle of the night.
Today, we want to give a special shout-out to:

● Our Firefighter Dads: Thank you for balancing the demands of family life with your dedication to keeping our community safe.

● Our Fire Families: Thank you to the partners, kids, and families behind our crew. Your patience, understanding, and support make everything we do possible.

● The Dads Who Inspired Us: To the father figures who taught us the value of service, hard work, and looking out for our neighbors.

Whether you're on shift, on call, or spending well-deserved time with your loved ones today, we hope you have a fantastic day.

🌸 🐝 !! SPRING IS COMING!! 🪻 🌱

It's an amazing feeling knowing spring is on the way, but it's also a dangerous time of year when it comes to our🪶feathery friends🦅. Also called BIRDS.

⚠️BIRD NESTS⚠️

As it comes to spring and summer, it's time to check for bird nests inside your engines. From tractors 🚜, to utes, 🛻, cars 🚙 and motorbikes 🏍️.

Please stay safe everyone and make sure to CHECK for BIRDS NESTS on a DAILY BASIS!

🔥 Three future superstars have stepped up! 🔥🚒

We were stoked to have three amazing people from our community turn up for Kakanui Fire Brigade training. They’ve taken the first step towards becoming volunteer firefighters, and we’ll be right beside them throughout the whole journey.

It takes courage, commitment and a willingness to learn to put your hand up and serve your community. These three have already shown they have what it takes. 💪

But we need more! 🙌

If you’ve ever thought about joining the brigade, come along and see what it’s all about. You don’t need to know everything — we’ll teach you, support you and help you every step of the way.

Join these three on their journey. Your community needs you. ❤️🚒

💨 ⚠️ Warning ⚠️🔥

Evening all; Strong winds are currently battering parts of the Otago Region, including Waitaki.

With these strong winds and with today's weather, the ground has had a chance to dry out a bit. Which can only mean one thing; fire.
From reignition from old fires to current fires become out of control.

Please!! : Ensure that you don't light any outdoor fires when there are strong winds, make sure all old fires are fully out, adding a bit of water won't be the solution, make sure you drown the old fire and turn it over just to be sure 😁.

In the event of your fire becoming out of control or an old burn pile reigniting, make sure to call 111. Even if it's nothing major, it's better to be safe then sorry.
