Clarks Mill

Clarks Mill An early example of colonial engineering, located in the rolling hills of Oamaru’s countryside. Clarks Mill is open Sunday 1 - 3pm and Thursday 10.30am - 1pm.

Located just north of the small town of Maheno, 12km south of Oamaru, the mill can be explored on a self-guided tour aided by knowledgeable hosts, historic photographs and displays. October - April. Machinery operating days run on the last Sunday of the month. If you would like to visit on an operating day please arrive by 1pm for introduction and tour. Closed for winter May - September, Christmas Day and Good Friday. Proudly cared for by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga.

It is a beautifully moody day at Clarks Mill today, and even though we're closed to visitors, the Mill is still a hive of activity!

Our incredible volunteers and restoration team are hard at work on a variety of projects - even when it's only 4°C!

We can't wait to welcome you all back in October, when the days are a little warmer and the Mill is open once again 🌸☀️.

It's Volunteer Week! Did you know Clarks Mill is almost entirely run by volunteers? Whether they're restoring machinery, caring for Smokey Joe's Speakeasy, or pruning the roses outside the miller's house, the Clarks Mill volunteers do it all and - quite literally - keep the wheels turning!

We owe the BIGGEST thank you to all our volunteers for keeping this beautiful site running - even during winter they are still working hard every week, making sure the site is ready to open. We simply couldn't do it without you!

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us this season! We've loved welcoming you to this historic flour mill and we look forward to starting up again in October. Here is a clip from this afternoon, our last operating tour of the 2025/26 season. We're back this Thursday with guided tours from 10am - 1pm, then we'll be closing for the colder months. Our friends up at Totara Estate are closed tomorrow, but open for the rest of the weekend with a yummy cake special on the menu!

We also have a special Easter treat for you, with an operating tour this Sunday. 🐰 Join us at 1pm for a tour with one of our friendly hosts before we fire up the machinery at 2pm.

We only have 1 operating tour left for the season after this one, on Sunday 26 April. Make sure we're in your calendar so you don't miss out!

We're back! Did you miss us? Because we certainly missed you! Clarks Mill is reopening tomorrow, Thursday 5 March from 10am to 1pm. Our next operating tour is on Sunday 29 March and we've set up an event here on facebook so you can register your interest and get reminders as the date approaches ⏰️ see you soon!
