| 𝗥𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗟𝗠𝗘𝗦🧑🏻‍🌾🌱

The DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management , through the DENR-UNDP/GEF Biodiversity Corridor Project, successfully established two Sustainable Land Management Exemplar Sites (SLMES) in Occidental Mindoro.

The activities were participated by representatives from the LGUs through the Municipal Agriculture Office, farmer association members of Neighborhood Shelter Assistance Association of Abra de Ilog, the Unlad Magsasaka Agriculture Cooperative (UMAC) of Paluan, IPs, project beneficiaries, and LGU-hired laborers from the community.

The biodiversity corridors are spaces that provide multiple benefits through the various ecosystem services they provide.

In the biodiversity corridors of Mindoro and Eastern Mindanao, Forest Guards work tirelessly in protecting and sustainably managing the ecosystems within that are home to an abundance of flora and fauna species that are significant to the local communities.

This World Ranger Day, let us recognize the dedicated efforts of our forest rangers; the unsung heroes on the ground who greatly contribute in sustaining a healthy ecosystem for all who benefit from it.

|| Cagayan de Oro, Philippines—BMB Leads Reorientation and Capacitation on the Protected Area Information System (PAIS) 🖥️

To continuously scale up biodiversity conservation, the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) spearheaded a comprehensive reorientation and capacitation workshop on July 27-31, 2026, focused on the use and management of the Protected Area Information System (PAIS).

The technical sessions provided regional personnel, database administrators, and Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) staff of Region 10 with hands-on training to effectively operate the system.

By digital optimization, the BMB aims to streamline PAIS to centralize data management, reporting, and biodiversity monitoring.

Meet the clever critters of the West Philippine Sea, the Coconut Octopus! 🐙🥥

Coconut Octopus (𝘈𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘰𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴) are one of the species that calls the West Philippine Sea their home. In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the West Philippine Sea Arbitral Ruling, let us get to know one of the victors of this historic milestone to remind us of the marine wonders that are truly worth fighting for.

This species is a master tactician that makes use of unconventional materials such as coconuts and marine litter to protect themselves from predators. However, do not mistake this behavior as cowardice. Coconut Octopus are in the frontline in protecting the stability of our food web!

A recent scientific study found that 46% of Indigenous Ancestral Domains in the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor contain highly suitable nesting habitat for the critically endangered Philippine Eagle.

That’s nearly 1 in every 2 ancestral domains serving as potential eagle strongholds.

For generations, Indigenous Peoples have protected these forests—not because they were declared protected areas, but because they are home.

Today, science is confirming what many have long known:
🌳 Protect Indigenous lands. Protect the Philippine Eagle.

That’s why the Philippine Eagle Foundation’s engagement as a partner in the formulation of the Ancestral Domain Sustainable Development and Protection Plans (ADSDPPs) and Conservation and Community Protection Plans (CCPs) for 14 priority ancestral domains along the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor—under the DENR–UNDP/GEF Biodiversity Corridor Project—is so strategic.

These plans strengthen Indigenous community-led governance and management of forests and natural resources, ensuring that conservation is built on Indigenous rights, knowledge, and leadership.
