Meeting | Outsourcing of Schools Initiative

A meeting on the Outsourcing of Schools Initiative was held at the Committee Room of the Elementary & Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under the chairmanship of Mr. Qaisar Alam, Managing Director, ESEF KP.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Tashfeen Haider, Special Secretary, Elementary & Secondary Education Department, KP; Mr. Zahir Ud Din Babar, Additional Secretary, Elementary & Secondary Education Department, KP; Mr. Syed Hammad Haider, Deputy Secretary (R&I); Mr. Nawaz, Additional Director; Mr. Sher Daraz Wazir, Director (HR & Admin); Mr. Salah Ud Din, Director EMIS, ESED; Mr. Shafqat-ul-Mulk, Project Manager, PIU; and members of the PIU team.

The meeting reviewed the progress of outsourced schools, with a focus on school readiness, academic performance, and students’ learning outcomes. The performance of School Operators was appreciated, particularly their efforts to improve the functioning, learning environment, and overall performance of low-performing schools.

ESEF KP remains committed to strengthening education delivery and creating improved learning opportunities for children across the province.

Strengthening the ESEF Monitoring Mechanism

A meeting to discuss and strengthen the Monitoring Mechanism was held today at the Committee Room of the Elementary & Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Habib-ur-Rehman, Director Programs, ESEF KP, and attended by Mr. Sher Daraz Wazir, Director HR & Admin, ESEF KP; Ms. Salmana Zaman, Deputy Director QAAC; Mr. Mohammad Asif Kasi, Provincial Coordinator JICA-AQAL; and Ms. Bushra Bukhari, Program Specialist Monitoring & Research, JICA, Mr. Minhaj Ullah, Education Associate, UNHCR, Ms. Shabana Training and admin officer JICA-AQAL.

The meeting provided a platform for detailed deliberations on the existing monitoring mechanism, with particular focus on strengthening monitoring processes, enhancing coordination, and ensuring effective oversight for improved implementation and quality of ESEF’s educational initiatives.

FCS Kafalat Yateem Khana Dheri Upgraded to Middle Level

A ceremony was held at Foundation Community School (FCS) Kafalat Yateem Khana Dheri, District Malakand, to mark International Literacy Day and formally inaugurate the school’s up-gradation from Primary to Middle level.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Habib-ur-Rehman, Director Programs, ESEF KP, as Chief Guest, along with Mr. Ghulam Sarwar, Deputy Education Officer, Mr. Mahmood Ali, District Program Officer ESEF Malakand, and other ESEF officials.

Students presented tableaus, skits on literacy, Naat and Milli Naghmay. Prizes were distributed among position holders of district-level competitions, including a female student of FCS Civil Hospital who secured 1st position in Milli Naghma at the University of Malakand.

The Chief Guest also distributed approximately 200 school bags, provided by ESEF with the support of UNICEF.

Previously functioning up to Primary level, the school has been upgraded to Middle level following increased enrollment of around 200 students, including 36 students in Grades 6–8. The up-gradation was formally inaugurated by Mr. Habib-ur-Rehman through a ribbon-cutting ceremony with an orphan child.

The Mr. Habib-ur-Rehman, Director Programs, ESEF KP, also visited the Technical College at the orphanage, where children receive training in computer literacy, tailoring, mechanical and electrical skills. He appreciated the initiative for promoting practical and vocational skills among children.

The ceremony concluded with appreciation for the efforts of ESEF and the management of Kafalat Yateem Khana in expanding educational opportunities for orphan children.

Day 4 | Four-Day Capacity-Building Training on Life Skills-Based Education (LSBE)

The fourth and concluding day of the Capacity-Building Training on Life Skills-Based Education (LSBE) for ESEF KP facilitators was successfully held today at the ESEF KP Committee Room.

The day began with a session on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), followed by an engaging discussion on resilience. The proceedings concluded with a formal closing ceremony, during which certificates were awarded to participants in recognition of their successful completion of the training.

The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Habib Ur Rehman, Director Programs, ESEF KP; Mr. Mohammad Asif Kasi, Provincial Coordinator, JICA-AQAL; and Ms. Salmana Zaman, Deputy Director QAAC, ESEF KP. The distinguished guests commended the participants for their dedication and active engagement throughout the training.

The training was facilitated by the PAGE Foundation team, comprising Mr. Nouman Ali and Mr. Shair Ali, Program Officers; Ms. Saima, Technical Expert – Gender, Disability & Inclusion; Mr. Usman Sabir, M&E Lead; and Ms. Aroba, Support Staff.

Spanning four days, the program aimed to strengthen the capacity of facilitators to promote quality, inclusive, equitable, and life skills-oriented education across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Follow-Up Meeting on the Outsourcing of Schools Initiative
A follow-up meeting regarding the Outsourcing of Schools Initiative was held at the Committee Room of the Elementary & Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under the chairmanship of Project Manager Mr. Shafqat ul Mulk.

The meeting was attended by the PIU staff, while the District Programme Officers (DPOs) and all School Operators participated virtually through Zoom.

During the meeting, a third-party assessment report prepared by KP-EMA was presented and thoroughly discussed. The assessment comprised both quantitative and qualitative data relating to 175 functional schools in the Winter Zone.

The performance of the School Operators was appreciated, particularly their efforts towards transforming low-performing schools into better-performing institutions. The assessment highlighted a considerable improvement in overall school readiness, while students’ learning outcomes remained at the expected standards during the first quarter of the outsourcing initiative.

The School Operators reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening school readiness, enhancing the quality of education, and improving students’ learning outcomes in the coming period.

ESEF Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains committed to promoting quality education and creating better learning opportunities for students across the province.

Inauguration of Model Community School – ESEF Bannu

On the directions of the competent authority, ESEF Bannu inaugurated its first Community School as a Model Community School under the ASPIRE Project, marking an important step towards strengthening community-based education and improving learning opportunities for children.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the Assistant Commissioner Headquarters, Bannu, on the invitation of Mr. Muhammad Rehan, DPO ESEF Bannu. The distinguished guest was warmly welcomed by the students and visited the classrooms, where he interacted with the children and took a keen interest in their learning environment.

To commemorate the occasion, books and school bags were distributed among the students, bringing smiles and joy to the children and making the event a memorable one. 📚🎒✨

The establishment of the Model Community School reflects ESEF KP’s continued commitment to providing quality, accessible, and inclusive educational opportunities for children across the province.

The initiative is being pursued under the leadership and guidance of Mr. Qaisar Alam, Managing Director, ESEF KP, whose commitment continues to support meaningful initiatives for the improvement of education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Day 2 | 4-Day Capacity-Building Training on Life Skills-Based Education

The 4-day capacity-building training on Life Skills-Based Education (LSBE) for ESEF KP facilitators continued today at the ESEF KP Committee Room.

Day 2 focused on Positive Behaviour Management and Supporting Young People with Additional Support Needs, equipping facilitators with practical approaches to promote positive behaviour, inclusion, meaningful participation, and supportive learning environments.

The training aims to strengthen facilitators’ professional capacity in life skills education, inclusive practices, learner engagement, and effective educational approaches.

The training is being delivered by the PAGE Foundation team, contributing to the promotion of quality, inclusive, equitable, and life skills-oriented education across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

One-Day Orientation Workshop on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment (PSEAH)

The Elementary & Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, organized a One-Day Orientation Workshop on the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment (PSEAH) today at the ESEF Training Hall, with the financial support of UNICEF.

The session was chaired by Mr. Sher Daraz Wazir, Director HR & Admin, ESEF KP. Dr. Wassaf Syed, UNICEF, delivered the orientation session, focusing on key principles and practices related to the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.

The workshop was attended by Mr. Fayyaz Ud Din Afridi, Education Officer, UNICEF, and Mr. Bilal Ahmed, Assistant Director (Accounts/Admin), ESEF KP, along with participants from different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The workshop aimed to strengthen awareness, promote professional and ethical conduct, and reinforce ESEF’s institutional commitment to safeguarding, dignity, and the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment. It provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of PSEAH principles and promote a safe, respectful, inclusive, and accountable working environment across the organization.
