Meet our new interns 🎉

Over the next six months, Nikolaj Bjørnskov-Johansen and August Juul Petersen will join the Embassy team. Nikolaj is studying an MSc in International Business & Politics at Copenhagen Business School and August is studying an MSc in Economics at University of Copenhagen. They will support the The Trade Council of Denmark in South Europe and the diplomatic work of the Embassy, strengthening the bilateral relationship between Denmark and Portugal.

Outside of work, they plan to experience Lisbon’s exciting culture. This includes enjoying Portuguese food and wine, taking up surfing, and attending local football matches 🍇🏄‍♂️⚽

Efter et spændende og lærerigt halvt år på den danske ambassade i Portugal er det tid til at sige farvel til vores to dygtige praktikanter, Mia og Nikolaj, som nu vender hjem til Danmark for at fortsætte deres studier. 🇩🇰🇵🇹

🏆🇩🇰 For the second year in a row, Copenhagen has been crowned the world's most liveable city by The Economist Intelligence Unit!

The Economist Intelligence Unit evaluated 173 cities around the world, and Copenhagen came out on top with perfect scores for stability, infrastructure, and education. 👏🚲📚

We might be a little biased, but we couldn't agree more - Copenhagen is truly a wonderful city to live in and visit!

That's the conclusion from The Economist Intelligence Unit's Liveability Index, which assesses which locations around the world offer the best and worst living conditions.⁠

The annual liveability index rates 173 cities across five categories: health care, culture and environment, education, infrastructure and stability. And once again in 2026, Copenhagen reigns supreme at the no. 1 spot on the index.⁠

Opening of Rua Snu Abecassis in Lisbon

Today, 6th of July, Danish Ambassador Lars Steen Nielsen was at the opening of Rua Snu Abecassis which is named after the Dane known as Snu Abecassis (born Ebba Merete Seidenfaden).

In 1965, Snu and her husband Vasco Abecassis founded the publishing house Dom Quixote, where they showed great courage in a modern publishing line often in disagreement with the moral and political standards of the time of the dictatorship. She is fondly remembered as a defender of a free, pluralistic and democratic society through her publishing.

Snu unfortunately died in a plane crash in 1980 at only 40 years old, along her partner Francisco Sá Carneiro, Portuguese Prime Minister at the time.

Mayor of Lisbon Carlos Moedas explained that, with this street naming, Lisbon Municipality wanted to “celebrate a spirit” which, in his view, “helped to pave the way for our democracy.”

Rooted in both Christian traditions and ancient midsummer celebrations, Sankt Hans, Sct., John in English, marks the shortest night of the year. Across the country, people gather with friends, family and neighbours around bonfires to welcome summer and enjoy the long, bright evening🌿✨

For many Danes, it’s one of the most cherished summer traditions, a chance to come together, sing, and enjoy the special atmosphere that comes with a Danish midsummer night🪵🎶❤️

🎉🇬🇱 Inuiattut ullorsiornissinni pilluaritsi, Kalaallit Nunaat / Congratulations on the National Day, Greenland 🇬🇱🎉

All around Greenland, today is celebrated with morning songs, speeches, hoisting of the flag, church service, 'kaffemik' (coffee and sweets) and local entertainment such as music, folk dancing and displays of kayaking skills. Many people wear the traditional national attire, kalaallisuut and qaqortumaartoq, and the Greenlandic flag, Erfalasorput, is waving everywhere.

The National Day was introduced in 1985 and is one of several ways to express and celebrate Greenland's national identity, culture, and traditions.

Nordic cooperation on societal security and emergency preparedness is to be consolidated across the Nordic region and significantly strengthened.

The ministers for Nordic cooperation agreed to contin​ue working on this at a meeting of the Nordic Council of Ministers in Tórshavn on 16 June, 2026. 🤝

Monika Rubin, Denmark's new minister for Nordic cooperation, has been visiting the Faroe Islands together with the other cooperation ministers as part of the joint Danish and Faroese presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The meeting also gave the minister an opportunity to meet the Faroese minister for Nordic cooperation, Bárður á Steig Nielsen.

In addition to the meeting in the Nordic Council of Ministers, the ministers met with the Border Barriers Council and observed a maritime emergency preparedness exercise.

"Emergency preparedness is fundamentally about our ability to protect citizens when it truly matters. When crisis strikes, it is essential that we can draw on one another, and the Nordic countries have everything to gain by joining forces. We are vulnerable alone, together we are strong. For this reason, I am very pleased that we are now strengthening cooperation regarding emergency preparedness and societal security," says Minister for Nordic Cooperation Monika Rubin.
