IOM Romania joined asylum seekers residing at the Regional Centre for Accommodation and Procedures for Asylum Seekers (CRPCSA), alongside third-country nationals and beneficiaries of international and temporary protection, at the recent Job Fair organized by Ateliere Fără Frontiere. To help unlock new pathways to employment, IOM provided on-the-ground support, guiding beneficiaries as they engaged with employers, explored career opportunities, and submitted their CVs.

IOM Romania announces the start of the project "Sustainable and autonomous inclusion of Ukrainian refugees in Romania – INCLUDE – UA" (project code AM2A2B_01), funded through the National Asylum, Migration and Integration Program 2021–2027.

Running from July 2026 to April 2027, this initiative supports the Romanian state’s ongoing response by facilitating the transition of temporary protection beneficiaries toward self-reliance, socio-economic cohesion, and long-term integration into host communities.

To maximize operational effectiveness, the project leverages already established multi-sector cooperation with key national and local public institutions as well as the civil society.

IOM Romania remains committed to strengthening local capacities and fostering sustainable community integration.

IOM Romania announces the completion of the project "Transition from emergency assistance to the sustainable and autonomous social inclusion of Ukrainian refugees in Romanian society – IncludE – UA" (project code AM2A1B_01), implemented between September 2024 and June 2026.

The project aimed to ensure the sustainability of the measures taken by the Romanian government to respond to the influx of people who fled Ukraine after the outbreak of war in February 2022 and obtained a form of temporary protection in Romania.

Through the services provided and close collaboration with public authorities, civil society organisations and private sector partners, the IncludE-UA project supported Ukrainian refugees build greater self-reliance and strengthened local integration efforts in Romania.

IOM Romania announces the start of project “InterAct – Active Participation and Integrated Support for Migrants in Romania 2026–2027” (Code: AM2A1D_01), implemented in partnership with the MICU Foundation.

From July 2026 to October 2027, the project will support at least 1.200 migrants residing in Romania's Region 1, including beneficiaries of international protection, individuals under temporary protection, and third-country nationals. Assistance will be available through IOM's centres in Bucharest and Brasov, at the asylum seekers' reception and accommodation centre in Bucharest, as well as through mobile outreach teams operating in the community.

As part of the project, at least 350 will benefit from tailored integration support aimed at facilitating their inclusion in Romanian society. Services will include:

🔹Legal counseling
🔹Romanian language classes
🔹Assistance in understanding and accessing available local services
🔹Support for vulnerable individuals
🔹Labour market orientation

In addition, the project will organize socio-cultural and community engagement activities for at least 1,000 beneficiaries promoting social inclusion and interaction with host communities.

The budget of the project is RON 5,111,099 and is co-financed through the 2021–2027 National Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (www.fed.mai.gov.ro)—90% and 10% national funding—under the grant agreement with the General Inspectorate for Immigration (Ministry of Internal Affairs).

IOM Romania announces the completion of the project AM22A_01 - InterAct – Active Participation and Integrated Support for Migrants in Romania”, implemented between 27 May 2024 and 26 June 2026 in Region 1.

IOM Romania supported migrants in building independent lives in Romania by helping them learn Romanian, access healthcare and education, find employment opportunities, and better understand the services and resources available to them. Through tailored support based on individual needs, beneficiaries strengthened their self-reliance and became more active members of their local communities.

The project reached migrants from diverse backgrounds, with the largest groups originating from Ukraine, Syria, Palestine, Iran, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This diversity reflects Romania’s evolving migration landscape and reinforced the need for flexible integration services able to respond to different migration experiences, needs and vulnerabilities.

The total eligible value of the project was RON 4,669,211.96

Funding was provided through the 2021–2027 National Programme for Asylum, Migration and Integration and the national budget, under the financing agreement concluded with the Intermediate Body for Asylum, Migration and Integration within the General Inspectorate for Immigration, Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Trafficking in persons can sometimes begin with deception. A job offer. A promise. An opportunity that turns into exploitation.

On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2026, under the theme "Trapped Behind the Scam," we are reminded that preventing trafficking means acting before exploitation occurs.

In Romania, recent legislative changes have strengthened safeguards for migrant workers by increasing accountability throughout the recruitment process. Among these measures, employers are now required to ensure workers have access to confidential mechanisms to report abuse and exploitation, helping identify risks earlier and enabling people to seek support safely.

Reducing vulnerability to trafficking requires safe and ethical recruitment, access to information and justice, and systems that place the rights and dignity of people at their centre.

Together with national authorities, civil society and international partners, IOM continues to promote prevention, protection and victim-centred assistance for those affected by trafficking and exploitation.

Prevention starts with protection. Safe recruitment saves lives.

IOM Romania partnered with the Brașov Chamber of Commerce and Industry for an information session on the latest legislative updates regarding foreign workers' access to the Romanian labour market (OUG32/2026).

The session brought companies and legal experts together with other authorities in Brașov - including the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI), the County Employment Agency (AJOFM), and the Territorial Labour Inspectorate (ITM) - to discuss the new legislative framework. IOM joined the expert panel to discuss practical implementation and answer direct questions from employers.

This initiative was organized under project 'IMERSE - Integration and Migration Enhancement for Romanian Sustainable Development', funded by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument (TSI) and implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in cooperation with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM).

For over a year, IOM has been working hand-in-hand with the "Casa Mureșenilor" Museum (.muresenilor ) to create meaningful opportunities that bring Brasov’s migrant community closer to the heart of this city and bring the city closer to them.

One of our proudest moments was the "Brasov@Acasa exhibition, where museum visitors stepped into the lives, journeys, and traditions of people who have chosen Brasov as their new home. Personal photographs, cherished food recipes, native crafts, and heartfelt testimonies. Every piece told a story of resilience, hope, and belonging.
