On 15 July 2026, Ambassador Sarimah Akbar welcomed His Excellency Korhan Karakoç, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Türkiye to Sweden, for a courtesy call at the Embassy of Malaysia.

The meeting served as an opportunity to exchange views on the diplomatic landscape in Sweden, including the shared interests of Malaysia and Türkiye in advancing cooperation through multilateral platforms such as the OIC. They also discussed regional developments in Scandinavia and explored areas where both Embassies could work together to strengthen engagement and promote common interests.

On 18 June 2026, Ambassador Sarimah Akbar participated in the 43rd (ACS) meeting held at the Residence of the Lao PDR Ambassador in Stockholm.

During the meeting, the Heads of Mission reviewed the successful initiatives implemented under the chairmanship of Lao PDR, including engagements with the State Secretary for Foreign Trade of Sweden, the Director of SIPRI, and senior management of the International Council of Swedish Industry (NIR). In addition, the committee members also deliberated on the list of proposed activities and programmes planned for the second half of 2026.

Towards the conclusion of the meeting, the rotating chairmanship of the ACS was formally handed over to 🇲🇾. The Embassy of Malaysia extends its sincere congratulations to 🇱🇦 for its successful chairmanship and looks forward to working closely with ASEAN partners in the country to further strengthen ASEAN unity, visibility and interests.

On 16 June 2026, Ambassador Sarimah Akbar received a courtesy call from Mr. Kristoffer Lundegren, Executive Chairman of Nation.dev, a Swedish tech skills intelligence company, at the Embassy of Malaysia. The meeting was requested by Mr. Lundegren to provide an overview of Nation.dev and to share the company's expansion plans in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia.

Nation.dev is set to establish its regional office in Malaysia in September 2026. Through this expansion, the company aims to facilitate greater opportunities for Malaysian professionals to connect with global employers, while supporting Malaysian businesses in accessing international expertise and skilled professionals.

On 14 June 2026, the ASEAN Committee in Stockholm (ACS) successfully organised the third edition of the ASEAN Trade and Food Fair at the Embassy of Malaysia and the Royal Thai Embassy in Stockholm. The event welcomed approximately 400 attendees, including members of the diplomatic corps, ASEAN nationals residing in Sweden, and members of the local community.

In the presence of Ambassador Daniel Wolven, Head of the Department for Asia, the Pacific Region and Latin America of the Swedish Foreign Ministry, the event successfully showcased the rich heritage of the region through authentic culinary delights, street food, grocery products and traditional clothing. Also, each ASEAN Member State delivered cultural performances that highlighted their distinct cultural traditions. In addition, seizing this wonderful opportunity, the Embassy of Malaysia also promoted the "Visit Malaysia 2026" campaign, inviting attendees to experience Malaysia’s unique attractions.

The ASEAN Committee in Stockholm extends its sincere appreciation to all guests, exhibitors, performers and everyone who contributed to making this event a resounding success. We look forward to welcoming you again next year for another celebration of friendship and culture in Sweden.

Mark your calendars! 📅 The ASEAN Committee in Stockholm (ACS) is pleased to invite everyone to the 3rd ASEAN Trade and Food Fair, taking place on 14 June 2026 at the Embassy of Malaysia and the Royal Thai Embassy in Stockholm.

Visitors could look forward to cultural performances by ASEAN Member States, as well as a tempting selection of authentic food and beverages from Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam.
