On 24 September, we celebrated Czech Statehood Day at the Embassy in Stockholm.

Ambassador Radek Matula highlighted the growing Czech-Swedish cooperation in defence, innovation, energy and transport, while our guest of honour, Dag Hartelius, State Secretary at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, emphasized the strategic importance of Czech-Swedish relations.

The evening was opened by pianist Magdalena and vocalist Zuzana from Madamina Music performing the Czech and Swedish national anthems.

Thank you to all our guests and partners for making the event a success, and special thanks to Škoda Group for supporting the cultural programme.

The Czech Republic has one of the most detailed hiking trail marking systems in the world. 🇨🇿🥾

For more than a century, hikers have followed simple painted symbols – coloured stripes between white lines on trees, rocks, and signposts. The system uses red, blue, green, and yellow to guide walkers through forests, mountains, villages, and historic landscapes.

Thanks to this system, people can easily explore regions like the Krkonoše Mountains or Bohemian Switzerland, as well as hidden trails to castles and viewpoints.

Kawasakiho růže je drama o minulosti, která se vrací do života jedné rodiny v době, kdy je potřeba rozhodnout, co znamená vina, odpovědnost a odpuštění. Film se dotýká také vyrovnávání se s minulostí a morálních dilemat, která mohou mít dopad na několik generací.

Did you know that Carlsbad Wafers have been baked in Karlovy Vary since 1788? 🇨🇿🍪

Known in Czech as Karlovarské oplatky, these thin, round wafers are one of Bohemia’s most beloved sweet treats. Made from a simple dough and filled with sweet cream, they have been produced continuously in the famous spa town for more than two centuries.

Today, they enjoy EU geographical indication protection and are sold across the Czech Republic and beyond.

Developed and popularized in Prague, this fascinating art form uses ultraviolet light, darkness, and clever stage techniques to create stunning visual illusions. Objects seem to float, disappear, and transform as if by magic!

Today, Black Light Theatre remains a symbol of Czech creativity and innovation, attracting visitors from all over the world.

The Czech Philharmonic returns to Stockholm after more than 50 years! 🇨🇿🇸🇪

On 25 and 26 August, the Czech Philharmonic performed at Stockholm’s Berwaldhallen as part of the prestigious Baltic Sea Festival, marking the orchestra’s return to the Swedish capital after more than five decades.

Both concerts were conducted by Semyon Bychkov, Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Czech Philharmonic. The programme on 26 August featured Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major, performed by acclaimed South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim, followed by Smetana’s iconic Má vlast (My Country). The performance of Má vlast was met with enthusiastic acclaim from the audience. 🇨🇿🎶

The Stockholm performances were made possible with the generous support of PPF Group, the Czech Philharmonic’s global partner.

Following the concert, Embassy representative Jaromír Vejrych, together with Jan Christoph Harder of PPF Group and Semyon Bychkov, hosted a reception for representatives of Swedish institutions, business, academia and other distinguished guests. The evening provided an opportunity to celebrate Czech culture while further strengthening Czech-Swedish cooperation in culture, innovation and economic relations.
