Grateful to Tonga Independent News for this thoughtful and detailed feature on what we've been building at Tonga Post Ltd. 🙏
Our National Home Addressing System is live. 48,220 addresses assigned across all six island groups, from Tongatapu to the remote northern islands of Niuatoputapu and Niuafo'ou.
This isn't just about postal delivery. It's foundational infrastructure for emergency services, e-commerce, banking access, digital government, disaster management, and more. Vacant allotments are addressed before homes are even built, so communities are future ready from the ground up.
We've submitted our National Home Addressing Methodology to the Universal Postal Union (UPU) as a potential model for Small Island Developing States across the Pacific. UPU endorsement would accelerate regional adoption, but whether or not it comes, the system continues.
There's still work ahead, but 48,220 addresses don't appear through committee meetings. They're the result of choosing to build rather than wait.
Thank you to Tuífua Vailena and the team at Tonga Independent News for taking the time to understand and share the vision. 🇹🇴
