Guilderland Emergency Medical Services is a department of the Town of Guilderland.

Guilderland Emergency Medical Services is a department of the Town of Guilderland. The department is comprised of paramedics and EMTs, and provides emergency medical care for the Town of Guilderland, village of Altamont, and Town of Knox, as well as mutual aid to surrounding communities as needed. tched by the Guilderland Communications Division which also dispatches the town police, fire, ambulance and animal control. Guilderland Emergency Medical Services works closely with our partner agencies, such as Altamont Rescue Squad, Helderberg Rescue, and Five Quad Ambulance, responding to emergency calls not only in the town of Guilderland but also in the town of Knox and parts of the State University of New York at Albany (SUNY) campus.

Welcome to our new series highlighting the healthcare providers and personnel who serve the Town of Guilderland in our EMS Department!

Dave is a part-time paramedic who has been serving the Town of Guilderland for almost twenty-eight years. He grew up in New York City and moved here for college, where he met his wife, Colleen. They have two kids and are proud grandparents. He enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling with his family.

Fun facts: His son, Joey, is also a paramedic for the Town (pictured)! Dave’s go-to snacks are gummy bears and Sour Patch Kids. He enjoys listening to Billy Joel's "Piano Man" and patronizing the Across the Street Pub, which Dave says never serves a bad burger.

Dave's Words of Wisdom: "People often say I’ve been doing EMS a long time, that I must have seen everything. I tell them I will never say I’ve seen everything, but I have seen my fair share. Wouldn't change a thing. Stay safe."

Did you know that you play an important role in helping us reach patients quickly and safely?

When you see an emergency vehicle approaching with lights and siren, or you receive an alert on your through a compatible app or connected vehicle system, remember:

Slow down. Check your mirrors. Signal your intentions. Safely move to the right when possible.

Your awareness gives us the space we need to reach someone who is experiencing a medical emergency. Every second counts!

A strong EMS agency is built on the people who staff it.

Guilderland EMS is not currently hiring, but we accept applications year-round and keep them on file for future openings. If you are an EMT or Paramedic considering a change, or you are finishing up your certification and looking for your first position, here is what the job looks like with us.

Full-time EMTs earn $24.16 to $31.52 per hour in 2026, and Paramedics earn $31.52 to $42.95. Both rates increase in 2027, and a new fifteen-year step has been added for our longest-serving members. The position also includes NYS Retirement and deferred compensation, medical, dental, and vision insurance with no out-of-pocket cost for single coverage, weekend differentials, double time plus a stipend on holidays, education reimbursement, and paid time off. Full-time providers work three twelve-hour shifts a week on a 911-only service.

Students currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program are welcome to apply, as are providers seeking a lateral transfer. Send your resume to [email protected] and we will keep it on hand.

We are pleased to introduce 5681, now in service with Guilderland EMS! This ambulance comes to us from Cambria Fire Company in the Buffalo, NY area, and it's fully equipped with our standard advanced life support capabilities: cardiac monitor, ventilator, medication IV pump, and the latest in pre-hospital care technology.

This addition expands our capacity to serve the communities of Guilderland and Knox and ensures we can respond quickly when our residents need us most.

Thank you to Cambria's members for taking such good care of this ambulance - we're proud to add 5681 to our fleet and look forward to serving Guilderland and Knox with it.

🩸 Give a Pint, Get a Pint - Guilderland EMS Blood Drive

This June, roll up your sleeve and help save lives right here in our community. The Town of Guilderland EMS is partnering with the American Red Cross for a blood drive, and we'd be honored to have you join us.

We're holding it in the Rich Beebe Memorial Training Center - named in memory of one of our own. Rich was a Guilderland EMS paramedic whose commitment to caring for others left a lasting mark on this agency and everyone we serve. There's no better way to carry that forward than by giving the gift of life in the room that bears his name.

This week is National Public Safety Dispatcher Appreciation Week, and we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible team at Guilderland Police Department Communications.

Before we ever arrive on scene, they're already working - taking the call, gathering critical information, and getting us rolling. They're the calm voice on the radio when things get chaotic, and the behind-the-scenes backbone of every call we run.
We wouldn't be able to do what we do without them, and we're proud to work alongside such a dedicated group of professionals every single day.
