What better way to celebrate National First Responders Day than with a parade?! 🎉

A huge THANK YOU to Gilbert Schools for organizing a special parade to honor our local first responders! ❤️💙 It was an awesome way to show appreciation for the men and women who answer the call, serve our communities, and work hard to keep everyone safe.

The waves, smiles, cheers, and support from the students and staff remind us why serving our community is so special. We’re proud to be part of a community that shows up for those who show up for others! 👏

Get those costumes ready, Ames! Trick-or-Treat Night is tomorrow!

A reminder that due to the Iowa State home football game, suggested trick-or-treating hours are Friday, Oct. 30, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Before heading out:
Make sure costumes are safe and visible.
Grab a flashlight or glow sticks.
Travel together and inspect treats before eating.
Drivers, slow down and watch closely for trick-or-treaters.

Have fun, stay safe, and save us a Reese’s!

Ames Police Investigate Stabbing

On October 27, 2026 at 8:06 p.m., the Ames Police Department responded to 3800 Lincoln Way for a stabbing. Officers located a female victim with injuries to her neck. The victim was transported to a Des Moines area hospital.

Officers located the suspect in a vehicle near the area, and he was identified as Timothy Cooke, 21, of Ames. Cooke was charged with Attempt to Commit Murder, a class “B” felony and transported to the Story County Jail.

The Ames Police Department continues to investigate this incident.

You may also contact Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa at (515) 223-1400. Online anonymous tips may be submitted to www.crimestoppersofcentraliowa.com.
