When we look back at the League’s history, we don’t have to go far to find this gem: the Parade of Flags. Each year, member municipalities proudly lined up to showcase their city and town spirit during a special walkthrough at Opening General Session. It was colorful, spirited, and just the right amount of organized chaos.

PS: Please do not bring your flag to this year’s Conference. While the Parade of Flags has officially retired, there are always one or two attendees who didn’t get the memo and show up ready to march.

Local officials are responsible for making sure records are either offered to State Archives or destroyed in accordance with Maryland State regulations when they are no longer needed. This session will include information on your role in this process and the importance of records management generally, as well as how to transfer or dispose of records, and resources to assist in those processes.

MML’s most engaged members have reached the end of this year’s Banner City and Town journey and have earned their Banner City and Town designation. MML’s oldest ambassador program is a guidepost for members to make the most of their MML membership, as these municipalities have done. Tag your municipality and we'll see you at the Summer Conference, where we will formally award recipients!

As we continue celebrating the League’s 90th Anniversary, we’re also reflecting on the incredible evolution of Maryland’s municipalities over the decades.

From paved roads and upgraded water infrastructure to revitalized downtowns and growing communities, it’s amazing to see how far our municipalities have come over the past 90 years — and the local leaders who helped make it happen.

Disasters and critical events can range from a multi-alarm fire to a devastating hurricane and occur at any time and with little warning. Every municipality should have a plan and be prepared to respond. Proper planning can save lives and minimize property damage. Join us at the Summer Conference, where we will cover the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Continuity of Operations Planning, response capabilities and resource management, the role of elected officials, developing external partnerships, mitigation strategies and grant funding.
