LOA - Northern Lights Chapter

Terrific initiatives by the Northern Lights Chapter!

Greetings Northern Lights Chapter!!! I hope you're all doing well under the current COVID conditions.

I know you're all excited about getting some PD's back on track. Once the restrictions lift we'll work hard to schedule some community engagements/PDs.

Some awesome things our LOA community has been working on lately are as follows:

Maj Gamache has been working hand in hand with POL and other base agencies to lead the path in getting a contaminate defuel tank installation project completed! The tank will enable 5th Gen aircrafts to defuel contaminated fuel without causing R11's to be put out of service for extended periods of time.

Ground Trans and VM have worked together to fabricate COVID barriers to add an additional level of protection to keep their operators safe while still providing mission critical transportation services.

Capt Shuls, Capt Apt, Lt Brower, A1C Laymon have been working hard with Digital Greenhouse to get the first iteration of URSUS developed. URSUS will return hundreds of hours back to deploying Airmen allowing them to spend those critical hours generating aircraft instead of processing through the mobility machine.

I know there are a lot of other things the Logistics community has been working on. I apologize if I left your project out of this post.

Thank you for everything you've been doing to make/keep JBER a premier location for "Big L" logisticians.

Great work by the maintainers and loggies for making this "Moose Walk" happen!
#Nomissionwithoutthelogistician

Today, our active-duty, Guard and Reserve units worked together to make this awesome “Moose Walk” happen!

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, JBER has continued generating combat airpower, defending the U.S. homeland and ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific. 🇺🇸

Though this type of formation is more commonly called an “Elephant Walk,” our version was so named to pay homage to both Alaska’s unique wildlife and to the C-17 Globemaster III, often called “The Moose.”

This formation was followed by valuable integrated training in the Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex.

"There are consortiums currently organizing in response to this pandemic to manufacture millions of masks and thousands of ventilators—one of those companies again answering the call for the “war effort” is the Ford Motor Company"

Ford’s Michigan Willow Run Factory produced B-24s during World War II “’The B-24 is the most problematic airplane that the Army has on its list,’ Hotton (Randy Hotton, a pilot and former director of the Yankee Air Museum) said. ‘It’s faster, carries more, goes further than the B-17, and ...

Excellent idea. Way to go Crossroads Chapter!

Good Afternoon Crossroads Chapter,

On Thursday 16 April at 1400 we will be hosting our first FB Live event! We will discuss the recent article we posted about the impacts of a global pandemic on transportation and supply chains. Our President, 2Lt Amanda Hopkins, and our VP, Justin Norman, will be talking about the questions posed in our previous post and any others asked during the event.

Article Link:
https://transportgeography.org/?page_id=8869

Questions:
1. How do we strike the correct balance between containing a pandemic, while avoiding disruption in the distribution of essential items?
2. How do you manage containment when your transportation methods operate at a faster rate than the incubation period of the current virus/disease?
3. There has been countless discussion on the topic of un-manned operations (i.e. un-manned powerplants, etc.). Some would argue that a continuous shift in this direction would be an advantage when facing the next pandemic. Thoughts?
4. Currently, there are very few drug manufacturing facilities. Will COVID-19 alter how we manufacture and distribute these items?
5. How do we prioritize who receives vital support (i.e. life-sustaining items) first?
6. We’ve witnessed pandemics before, what makes COVID-19 much more devastating?

Please tune in on Thursday, we are excited to discuss this topic with all of you!

#ReadyShaw | F-16 Quarantine routine

Team, yesterday we drafted up a daily routine to help you work from home. Then we thought... wait a second, what about our F-16’s daily routine during this quarantine??

Check out a day in the life of a F-16. Even during this time where our Airmen and Jets are adjusting to new schedules in order to maximize social distancing and new sanitary practices to minimize possible exposure, they are still staying combat lethal, executing the mission and continuing to serve our great nation.

Loggies, You may have heard me say that "I stand on the shoulders of giants." MGen Harris was one of those giants. I met Gen Harris when I was a Lt attending SAC Maintenance University on a field trip to Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center. I didn't realize her significance in Air Force history then. I attended her funeral today and joined many others in saying goodbye to a true pioneer. Team Dover Mission Generators under the leadership of Cols Tyler Schaff and Chris May supported a C-17 fly-by in Gen Harris' honor. May she rest in peace....
