Ira B. Jones Elementary

Ira B. Jones Elementary Global Scholars - Learn with the world, not just about it! Our magnet theme encapsulates our vision of education as a pathway to global citizenship.

Our school proudly embraces the Global Scholars Magnet Theme, fostering a vibrant learning environment that connects students to learn the value of their connection to the world and how they can work to improve it through project-based learning, service learning, 21st-century skills, Paideia, and the celebration of the world's people and culture. Through innovative teaching methods like project-ba

sed learning and Paideia seminars, our students engage deeply with real-world challenges. They develop essential 21st-century skills—collaboration, critical thinking, and communication—while learning the importance of service and cultural appreciation. Our Logo: A Symbol of Global Connection
Our school's new logo symbolizes the vibrant connection between our students, the world, and the future they are helping to shape. It embodies the core of our educational philosophy, reflecting diversity, global citizenship, and the empowerment of learners. The design intertwines vibrant colors and interconnected shapes to represent the global community and the fusion of knowledge, skills, and values our students gain through their educational journey. Pillars of Our Global Scholars Magnet Theme
+Project-Based Learning (PBL): Through PBL, students tackle complex questions and problems, gain hands-on experience, and learn to apply knowledge in practical, meaningful ways.

+Service Learning: This pillar emphasizes the importance of community service. Students are encouraged to engage with their community and learn the impact of their actions on a local and global scale.

+ 21st-Century Skills: These skills—communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking—are integrated throughout our curriculum. We aim to prepare students to succeed in an increasingly interconnected and fast-changing world.

+Paideia: A method that focuses on active learning through discussion, fostering independent thought, and nurturing each student's intellectual and emotional growth.

+Celebration of World Cultures: We celebrate the rich diversity of the world's cultures through immersive experiences that broaden students' understanding of different people, traditions, and perspectives. This description aligns our school's logo, mission, and vision with our magnet pillars, showcasing how they form a cohesive and meaningful learning experience for our Global Scholars. Our magnet theme, the pillars, and the logo reflect our school's daily operations, values, and long-term goals.

Black Excellence at Jones

Last night, our Ira B. Jones community came together for an incredible evening of celebration, connection, and joy at our annual Black Excellence Celebration.

This year’s theme, Fellowship, was felt in every part of the night—from our powerful student and community performances to the shared meal that brought families together around the table.

Inspired by the tradition of Sunday dinner, families, staff, and community members gathered not just to celebrate Black excellence, but to connect, share stories, and build relationships. It was truly beautiful to see such a diverse group of families coming together in one space, united in support of our students and one another.

Our Global Scholars shined on stage with confidence, talent, and pride, reminding us all of the brilliance that lives within our school community.

Moments like this remind us that school is more than a place for learning—it is a place where community is built, voices are uplifted, and everyone belongs.

Thank you to everyone who attended, performed, supported, and helped make this evening so special.

We are proud to celebrate two outstanding members of our Jones Crew who go above and beyond for our Global Scholars every single day!

💛 Instructional Assistant of the Year: Ms. LeTisha Williams (Kindergarten IA)
Ms. LeTisha shows up every day ready to give her very best to our students. She is a calm, welcoming presence in kindergarten and is known for her ability to help students navigate big emotions with patience and care. Colleagues describe her as flexible, reliable, and deeply committed to the success and well-being of every child in her classroom. She consistently goes above and beyond to support both the students and her teacher, and our kindergarten team is incredibly fortunate to have her.

💙 Teacher of the Year: Ms. Anna Rossino (1st Grade Teacher)
Ms. Anna embodies what it means to be a dedicated educator and leader. She pours her heart into her classroom while also contributing to the growth of our entire school community. From serving on the School Improvement Team to leading the monthly CREW book study, she continually steps forward to support both students and staff. Her colleagues describe her as positive, solution-oriented, and deeply committed to ensuring every student feels valued, included, and ready to learn.

We were thrilled to have our current honorees help share the exciting news:

4th Annual Read Together Day at Jones: Celebrating the Power and Joy of Reading Together!

Earlier this week, our Global Scholars came together for one of our favorite traditions — Read Together Day. There is something so powerful about pressing pause as a school community to celebrate the joy, freedom, and connection that reading brings.

We kicked off the morning in the auditorium with incredible storytelling by David Novak, who captivated our students from the very first story and reminded us of the magic that lives inside books. From there, classrooms across the building were filled with shared stories, partner reading, guest readers, imagination, laughter, and learning.

As Frederick Douglass once said, “Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” At Jones, we believe literacy is liberation. Reading opens doors — to opportunity, empathy, knowledge, confidence, and possibility. When we read together, we grow together.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Eva for helping keep this beautiful tradition alive for our students year after year.

Swipe through to see the joy, focus, and love of reading in action! 💛

📚❤️ National Reading Day at Ira B. Jones Elementary ❤️📚

Today, we were honored to welcome members of the Asheville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. to our campus as they spent time reading with our students in celebration of National Reading Day—a day dedicated to early literacy and the joy of reading.

As a historically Black fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. proudly partners with Room to Read, an organization committed to fostering literacy and helping create a world free from illiteracy by promoting positive reading habits among young learners. Our visitors brought engaging stories into classrooms, sparked curiosity, and inspired a genuine love of reading among our scholars.

We know that literacy opens doors—to opportunity, confidence, and lifelong learning—and today’s experience was a powerful reminder of what happens when community and education come together. The smiles, laughter, thoughtful questions, and shared moments between our students and readers made it clear: everyone truly enjoyed the experience.

We are incredibly grateful to the members of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc., for taking the time to invest in our students and model the importance of reading, service, and mentorship. Thank you for supporting our scholars and for helping us nurture strong readers and bright futures. ❤️
