We had a wonderful gathering in Apopka, Florida, this past Friday. We shared stories from our service experiences, enjoyed laughter, and even ended the night with a group dance. Sitting in a circle with community members, Hope Community Center staff, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, and NDMV alumni was truly inspiring and impactful.

Although the world can sometimes feel dark, many people are working hard to bring light to the areas that need it most. Our time together truly exemplified that.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating 35 years of Love in Action!

Meet Abby, a first year Volunteer serving at Epiphany School in Boston.

Abby is from St. Paul, Minnesota and she chose to serve with NDMV because she wants to make positive changes for kids. NDMV allowed her to move out to Massachusetts and pursue her dream of working with kids in a school, and building safe spaces where students feel loved and seen. Her favorite NDMV Core Value is Inclusion. Abby shared that she wanted to volunteer and work in schools because she believes every student is valuable and should feel loved. All kids should be included when thinking of lesson plans and creating a classroom space. She believes every kid deserves a place where they feel safe to learn and grow, and inclusion highlights that belief well.

This year, Abby is looking forward to making lasting connections with her students.

We spy some vintage NDMV and AmeriCorps swag. 👀🕵🏾

This strikingly beautiful mosaic art work can be found at the entryway of Hope CommUnity Center and we felt honored to see a piece of NDMV history weaved into so many other precious details that welcome you as you walk into the doors.

Similar to our work, it takes the collaboration of many diverse pieces to make an impact in our communities. This art piece is a wonderful expression of our lived history and partnership with the Hope CommUnity Center and many other partners over the last 35 years. ❤️

Community isn't just something we find. It's something we build, together.

When Catherine left Seattle to serve with NDMV in Watsonville, California, she had no idea how much the experience would change her understanding of community, service, and belonging.

Through her story, Catherine reminds us that building community starts with showing up, welcoming others, and choosing to care.

That's how we Gather the Good.

Meet Carolina, a first year Volunteer serving at Grace Medical Home in Orlando, FL.

Carolina is from Miami, FL and she chose to serve with NDMV because she believes serving people is a way to do good with her time. She is a social worker, so this is something very important to her beliefs. Her favorite NDMV Core Value is holistic education because she thinks learning about the person and their environment is equally as important when serving someone.

This year, Carolina is looking forward to learning about people's backgrounds that are different than her own.
