Barnstable Fire Department Our goal is to increase life safety through public education, training, and code enforcement. We are located on historic Route 6A on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

We are a career fire department with 19 uniformed and one civilian personnel including the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, four Captains, thirteen Firefighters, and one Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief. We are centrally located on the Cape, and proudly protect a population of approximately 5,000 residents on the North-side of the Town of Barnstable and approximately seven miles of Sandy N

eck (an isolated peninsula located about one mile North of Barnstable Harbor). We provide a full range of services to our community including fire suppression, Paramedic level emergency medical services, marine rescue, technical rescue and extrication services, as well as a full range of inspectional and public educational services. We provide these emergency services 24 hours a day/ seven days a week/ 365 days a year.

It was a busy day for the Barnstable Fire Department yesterday. With storm related calls, medicals, a structure fire and a car fire Group 3 and off duty members responded to 18 calls during their 24 hour shift. Great job by all and special thanks to our mutual aid partners for help at the structure fire Yarmouth Fire Department, MA West Barnstable Fire Department, Hyannis Firefighters.

: 24 years ago today, Firefighter Paul Brotherton, Lieutenant Timothy Jackson, Jeremiah Lucey, Lieutenant James Lyons III, Firefighter Joseph McGuirk, and Lieutenant Thomas Spencer of the Worcester Fire Department made the ultimate sacrifice in a devastating five-alarm fire at the Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse. Great day today! We were able to perform live burn drills today with the help of the Barnstable County Burn Trailer and its staff of instructors. Scenarios were varied but all included fire attack, search, and aerial operations with roof venting. Great job by all involved. We were even able to get our BHS Intern Doug in for some experience.

Our thoughts are with the Yarmouth Fire Department, MA and Chief Sherman's family during these difficult days. Chief Sherman was truly a fixture in the fire service on Cape Cod and beyond. Rest in Peace Chief.

The Yarmouth Fire Department, MA regrets to announce the passing of retired Chief Randall Sherman. Chief Sherman served the Town of Yarmouth Massachusetts for 37 years, starting at the age of 19. He was Chief for 4 years, retiring in 2008. He was an active member of the fire service his entire career, serving many years as an elected member of the Barnstable County Retirement Board. Services are being planned for November 18th, details will be made available when finalized. Please keep the Sherman family in your thoughts.

FF Alex Smith and FF Dan Black will be graduating on November 17, 2023 and we are looking forward to their return to duty. By all accounts they are doing great at the academy. Congratulations to FF/EMT-Paramedic Matthew Judge on completing his probationary year with the Barnstable Fire Department. As of this morning at 0800 FF Judge is no longer on probation and will stay assigned to Group 3. FF Judge has worked very hard during his probationary year. He graduated near the top of his recruit class when he graduated from the Mass State Fire Academy in Bridgewater, MA. He is a qualified operator of most of our apparatus and a strong Paramedic. Great job FF Judge and keep up the Strong Work!!

Monday September 11th, 2023, The Wellfleet Fire Department extinguished a 2nd alarm building fire in their town. During the fire Barnstable Firefighters responded to the Eastham Fire Department with our Ladder 206 as part of the 2nd alarm mutual aid response of fire apparatus to help cover the region with a ladder truck while several area firefighters fought the fire.

(Hyannis, MA – September 13, 2023) The Town of Barnstable, the Barnstable Adult Community Center, the Friends of the Barnstable Council on Aging, Barnstable Police, and the five Fire Districts would like to invite YOU to participate in our 2nd “55+ COMMUNITY SAFETY DAY” on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 10am-4pm at the Barnstable Adult Community Center.

It was a very well attended event and we hope those that joined us Never Forget. We at the Barnstable Fire Department will Never Forget. Barnstable —The 15th annual 9/11 Day of Remembrance will be held in Barnstable Village on Monday September 11 starting at 9:55 AM at the Barnstable Fire Station, Rt 6A in Barnstable Village. The traditional ceremony will be led by BFD Chief Christopher Beal and will feature BFD Chaplin Rev. Joshua Adams, soloist Suzanne Tonaire and BFD Capt. Robert Cecil, BFD Lt. Richards French (Ret.). Retired Yarmouth Police Chief Frank Fredrickson will be the keynote speaker.

Following the ceremony, a procession will be led by Leslie Kenny and Calum MacLachlan on bagpipes and Barnstable Police Department Honor Guard along Rt 6A to St. Mary's Church.

At the church a special Day of Remembrance service will start at 10:45. This will be led by The Rev. Dr. Russ Norris and featuring patriotic music with vocalists, trumpet, piano, and organ.

Three retired American Airlines flight attendants will be the keynote speakers, sharing their experiences and memories of 9/11/01. They are Donna Bartlett (Centerville), Jana Stein (Centerville) and Maureen Winkler (Osterville).

A reception will follow in the church gardens.

Donations will go to Heroes in Transition, a local organization that assists Veterans.

The Barnstable Fire Department regrets to announce the death of retired Firefighter/Paramedic Donald J. O’Neill. FF O’Neill was a career member of the department from June 2002 until his retirement in August 2017. FF O’Neill was a long-time member of Barnstable Firefighters Local 3276 and served as Secretary/Treasurer for many years. Please keep all of FF O’Neill’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. The Barnstable Fire Department wishes to extend its sincere condolences to the entire family during these difficult times.

Donald O'Neill, age 61, died peacefully in his Centerville home on Friday July 7, 2023. He is survived by his wife Cindy, 4 children, as well as 5 grandchildren.
He was a proud firefighter and paramedic with the Barnstable Fire Department for 15 years. He enjoyed playing the guitar, watching sci-fi movies, riding his motorcycle, and cheering on the New England Patriots.
Donald will be remembered by his loved ones for his intellect, sense of humor, and unconditional love. He will be greatly missed by those that were close to him.
In lieu of flowers, his family invites you to make a donation in his honor to the First Responders Children's Foundation.

The Barnstable Fire Department is excited to showcase our new firehouse kitchen table. With support from district voters at our annual meeting, funds have been allocated for a complete kitchen remodel. This table is the first step toward a newly renovated kitchen for our members. This has been a collaborative effort between the department and Barnstable Firefighters L-3276. Local 3276 shared the cost of this new table and have committed to provide the labor for the upcoming kitchen remodel. This morning was the first shift change with the new table. Special thanks to Groups 1 & 2 for assembling the new table and moving it in place yesterday. Strong work by all!!

Today Firefighters from the Barnstable Fire Department along with members from our partnering public safety agencies including: Barnstable Police Department, Barnstable Natural Resources Department, MA DCR District 1, Sandy Neck Beach Staff, Sandwich Fire, and West Barnstable Fire Department conducted simulated fire training at the Sandy Neck Colony today.

Firefighters and public safety personnel simulated a building fire response to the Sandy Neck Colony. Firefighters deployed several marine assets along with deploying several hundred feet of firefighting hose from the boats that ran up towards the colony area. Sandy Neck Beach Staff and Barnstable Police assisted with scene security.

This training offers everyone the chance to review how firefighting operations would happen should an incident at the colony occur. The Barnstable Fire Deparment would like to thank our partnering public safety agencies today for their assistance, as well as the residents of the Sandy Neck Colony for allowing crews to work around their houses today.

Barnstable Firefighters continue to train new members on operating our apparatus. This training also allows other more senior firefighters the chance to refresher and stay up to date on how to operate all our vehicles.

The Barnstable Fire Department along with Barnstable Police Department Community Officer Morrison and the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office conducted a Community Risk Reduction summer safety event at a local apartment complex yesterday.
