This wouldn’t have been possible without our hardworking, expert hosts so extra thank you to Bay End Farm, Wellfleet Oyster Alliance, The Bookstore and Restaurant, Hillside Poultry Farm.

We appreciate all work that Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources does and makes possible while supporting local farms, aquaculture growers, farmers’ markets, and food producers. Thank you for taking the time to come visit and learn directly from our local farmers about land and sea agriculture on Cape Cod.

From farm fields to oyster flats, learning happens where the work gets done. 🌱🦪

Recently, Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) staff visited Cape Cod for a Buy Fresh Buy Local Cape Cod tour of local farms and shellfish operations to learn more about the people, partnerships, and innovation that strengthen our local food system.

The day included stops at:
🌾 Hillside Farm in Truro, where visitors learned about diversified farming and livestock production.
🌾 Bay End Farm, where visitors learned how the farm's commercial kitchen, farm stand, and recent investments are creating new opportunities for local food and supporting a more resilient farm business.
🦪 A Wellfleet shellfish farm, where participants experienced oyster aquaculture firsthand and learned about the role shellfish farming plays in Cape Cod's coastal economy.

By connecting state and local partners with farmers and shellfish growers, tours like these help strengthen agriculture and aquaculture across the Commonwealth.
