A huge thank you to the Billings Police Department for once again bringing real-world learning opportunities to our students at Riverside Middle School!

Last week, Detective Miller visited Riverside to demonstrate crime scene investigation techniques with our students. From hands-on displays to answering thoughtful questions and giving tours of the CSI van, students had an incredible opportunity to learn more about forensic science and careers in law enforcement in an engaging and interactive way.

We are so grateful for the time, energy, and expertise shared with our students.

A special shoutout also goes to our very own SRO Walker. Time and time again, when a teacher reaches out with an idea or request, Officer Walker does whatever it takes to help make it happen for kids. His investment in our school community goes far beyond the school day.

Just another great reason to celebrate Police Week and the partnerships that help make Riverside such a special place for students. # GoCougars

For the month of April, we are excited to recognize Cass Barnes with Riverside’s Exceedingly Ap-Peeling Award!

Cass has made an incredible impact in her role and has quickly become an essential part of keeping Riverside running smoothly. From organizing and managing the detention room to keeping accurate records and helping hold students accountable, Cass consistently goes above and beyond behind the scenes.

What stands out most, though, is the way she connects with students. Cass works hard to build positive relationships — while balancing accountability, consistency, and care. Whether she’s helping students navigate challenges in school and life, tracking tardies, stepping in wherever needed, or simply greeting others with a smile, Cass brings positivity and professionalism to everything she does.

Cass truly embodies the spirit of Riverside by engaging deeply, empowering action, and helping eliminate friction for both students and staff every single day.

Thank you, Cass, for all you do for Riverside! 💙💛

Riverside staff and families — as a heads up, the Billings Police Department Crime Scene Investigation Van will be parked at Riverside during the school day today as officers work with some of our science classes for educational purposes.
There is no emergency or safety concern. This is simply a hands-on learning opportunity for students connected to science and career exploration. Thanks for your support as we continue bringing real-world learning experiences to our students!

What a great night at our latest Riverside Family Engagement – Cougar Culture Night!

We loved seeing families and staff come together to enjoy food, connection, and meaningful experiences that celebrate culture and community. A huge thank you to the Billings Public Schools Indigenous Education Department for leading engaging and impactful activities for our students and families.

From high-energy games like Rock & Fist in the gym and Run & Scream on the field, to hands-on cultural activities like the Tie Up Game, Make the Stick Jump, and Double Ball/Hoop & Arrow—there was something for everyone to experience and enjoy. Families also had the opportunity to slow things down and connect through storytelling and literature, creating space for reflection and learning.

Nights like this remind us how important it is to honor and celebrate the cultures, traditions, and voices that make up our Riverside community.

At Riverside Middle School, our student-led Hope Squad is helping carry the work of Rachel’s Challenge forward every day.

These students lead with kindness—looking out for peers, listening, and connecting others to support when it’s needed most. It’s real peer-to-peer impact.

Proud of our Cougars for creating a culture where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported. To see this amazing work in action, check out the Community 7 video here: https://imd0mxanj2.execute-api.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/ssr/watch/69e2966aa169a20002644157

We are incredibly grateful for our ongoing partnership with the ZONTA Club of Billings and the impact they continue to make for our students here at Riverside Middle School.

For over two years, ZONTA has generously supported our school by donating food to our Riverside food pantry—helping ensure students have access to meals and snacks when they need them most. Recently, they went above and beyond by donating over 100 full hygiene bags for our students. These bags are filled with essential items that support student health, confidence, and dignity—removing barriers so students can focus on learning.

ZONTA is an international organization dedicated to empowering women and improving lives through service and advocacy, and we are fortunate to have such a committed local chapter investing directly in our Riverside community.

Partnerships like this truly make a difference. Thank you, ZONTA Club of Billings, for your continued generosity and for helping us take care of our Cougars—both in and out of the classroom.
