Week in Review: August 29 – September 4, 2026

This week, Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 70 alarms.

The 2026 Recruit School completed its first full week. Recruits experienced everything from new haircuts to the demands of an intense training schedule, all while working through some extremely hot temperatures.

The concrete pour has now been completed for our apparatus bay project at the drill field, marking another major step forward in the project.

Chief Lord and Chief Bartlett attended the monthly Central Alabama Fire Chiefs Association (CAFCA) meeting.

As always, our members spent time checking and maintaining apparatus and equipment to ensure everything remains ready for emergency response.

Rocky Ridge Fire Units: Engine 101, Rescue 111, Rescue 112 and District Chief 120 are currently working a multiple car wreck on Highway 280 eastbound across from the Summit at the entrance to the Shell station. Currently one lane of traffic is closed. Please be careful driving in this area as traffic is backed up.

Week in Review: August 22 – August 28, 2026

This week, Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 76 alarms.

Our 2026 Recruit School kicked off this week! RRFD has five members participating in this year's class of 35 recruits through the Over-the-Mountain Regional Training Center (OTM-RTC). We wish all 35 recruits a safe and successful journey as they begin their fire service training.

Dr. Duerring, our Medical Director, conducted our second day of EMS training on several new medications recently added to our inventory, along with a refresher on the operation of our Sapphire IV pumps.

Our apparatus bay project at the drill field is now prepped for concrete, with plans to pour the building slab and exterior pad next week. It's exciting to see another major phase of the project taking shape.

Our Training Division has conducted several CPR recertification classes recently and wrapped up the current round of classes this week. Crews also focused on the readiness of our boats and other special operations apparatus and equipment, making sure everything is prepared when the need arises. Members also spent time orienting and training newer employees on the operation of our electric stair chairs.

Week in Review: August 15 – August 21, 2026

This week, Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 72 alarms.

Over the weekend, Chief Ledbetter represented RRFD at the quarterly Alabama Association of Rescue Squads meeting.

We kicked off our Pre-Consumption Conditioning Program in preparation for our upcoming recruit school. RRFD, along with our partners at the Over The Mountain Regional Training Center(OTM-RTC), will be the first recruit school in Central Alabama to implement this new program.

On Monday, Dr. Duerring, our Medical Director, conducted EMS training on several new medications recently added to our inventory, along with a refresher on the operation of our Sapphire IV pumps. Also on Monday, Station 2 hosted CPAT certification testing for several candidates.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, RRFD hosted the Alabama Fire College’s Electric Vehicle Fire class. A special thank you to Chief Brandon Mills for teaching the course and sharing his expertise with our members.

Our apparatus bay project at the drill field reached another exciting milestone—the building is now erected and ready for concrete work, which is scheduled to begin next week.

Throughout the week, members continued checking, exercising, and maintaining our apparatus and equipment to ensure everything remains ready for service when called upon.

Rocky Ridge Fire Units: Engine 101, Engine 102, Rescue 111 and District Chief 120; along with Vestavia Hills Fire Units: Engine 5, Rescue 35 and Battalion 1 are making quick work of a box truck fire on Interstate 459 South near Mile Marker 18. The right two lanes are closed until units can clear the scene. Please be careful driving in this area.

Week in Review: August 8 – August 14, 2026

This week, Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 92 alarms—a very busy week for our crews.

Our new apparatus bay project at the drill field is coming along nicely, and we are excited to see the continued progress.

On Monday, Chief Lord attended the Jefferson County Association of Fire Departments meeting, and on Thursday, Chief Bartlett attended the Shelby County Fire and EMS Association meeting.

Despite the summer heat, our members continue to make training and physical fitness a priority, keeping their skills sharp and staying prepared for whatever the next call may bring. Crews also conducted air bag training this week. While out on a call, some of our members had an opportunity to spend a little time with a group of children and show them one of our fire trucks.

Our Fire Marshal’s Office has also stayed busy conducting sprinkler and standpipe inspections at various new apartment and condominium developments currently under construction in our district. Additionally, Fire Marshal, Chief Crumpton attended the Central Alabama Fire Marshals Association meeting.

Throughout the week, members spent time checking, exercising, and maintaining several pieces of apparatus and equipment to keep everything ready for service when needed.

Week in Review: August 1 – August 7, 2026

This week, Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 58 alarms.

Chief Lord and Chief Bartlett attended the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs Professional Development Conference.

Throughout the week, members spent time with several different pieces of apparatus and equipment, keeping everything checked, maintained, and ready for the next call.

We held Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD) coursework for one of our new employees as part of his continued training and development.

Members also put our forcible entry door prop at Station 2 to good use, working through drills designed to improve and reinforce forcible entry skills.

After a brief slowdown, we're glad to see construction on our new apparatus bay at the drill field picking back up and making progress.

Over several days, all members rotated through our annual SCBA mask fit testing, helping ensure the proper fit and function of this critical piece of personal protective equipment.

Crews also completed hose deployment and fire stream drills, reinforcing the fundamental skills we rely on during fireground operations.

And despite the summer heat, our members continued to make physical fitness and hands-on training a priority—staying prepared and ready to serve when called upon.

Week in Review: July 25 – July 31, 2026

This week, Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 66 alarms.

A couple of our on-duty members had the opportunity to attend church services on Sunday. Throughout the week, members also worked with our apparatus and equipment to ensure they remain in a constant state of operational readiness.

Chief Bartlett attended the BREMSS Quarterly Executive Board Meeting. Despite the summer heat, our crews continued to dedicate time to physical fitness, training, and maintaining the skills necessary to serve our community.

Week in Review: July 18 – July 24, 2026

This week, Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 71 alarms.

We are blessed to have so many churches within our district, and it is always encouraging when our on-duty members have the opportunity to attend services between emergency calls.

A special thank you to Representative Mike Shaw, who personally stopped by to present a grant check in support of our Training Division. We sincerely appreciate his continued investment in firefighter training and public safety.

Even in the summer heat, our members remain committed to staying prepared. Crews spent time exercising, training, and sharpening their skills. On Friday, Dr. Duerring, our Medical Director, conducted EMS case reviews and training with our crews.

Members also spent time throughout the week working with our apparatus, special operations equipment, and boats to ensure they remain fully ready for service whenever needed.
