Rocky Ridge Fire District Week in Review:

The Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 69 alarms this week. On Monday, Chief Baker held a meeting in Tuscaloosa at the Alabama Fire College, where he is the lead coordinator for the upcoming 2024 Full-Scale State AMAS Exercise, scheduled to be held there from December 2–5, 2024. On Tuesday, in partnership with the Addiction Prevention Coalition, we received our first delivery of ONEbox units. This program allows us to place opioid emergency boxes in various buildings throughout our community. Each box contains video instructions, two doses of Narcan, and other supplemental items for administration. Also on Tuesday, Chief Lord, along with many Central Alabama Fire Chiefs Association members, attended a training program entitled "Adaptive Tactics," brought to our region through the efforts of CAFCA. Later that afternoon, Dr. Duerring conducted our bimonthly EMS case review and training. On Wednesday, members spent time detailing our transport units: Rescues 111, 112, 113, and 115. This week, our crews participated in the Over The Mountain Regional Training Center OTM-RTC quarterly live fire training with fire suppression and search and rescue, which was held at the Homewood Fire Department's drill field. On Thursday, our SCBA vendor, MES, completed the annual service on all of our SCBA units. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend.

Rocky Ridge Fire Units: Engine 102, Engine 101, Rescue 111 and District Chief 120; along with Vestavia Hills Fire Engine 5, mutual aid, are working an industrial van fire at Colony Woods Apartments. This was reported as a carpet cleaning van that burst into flames while it was in operation summoning a fire department response. The fire is currently under control.

Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 74 alarms this week. Congratulations to our newest state licensed Paramedic, Nicholas Wood. Nick is one of our full time employees who completed his paramedic training and then attended our most recent firefighter recruit school. After completion and certification as a Firefighter I/II, he successfully passed his National Registry Paramedic Exam and is now our newest Paramedic. Congratulations Nick. Chief Ledbetter represented Rocky Ridge Fire at the quarterly AARS meeting this week. Chiefs Lord, Bartlett, Ledbetter, Hambright and Loux; Lieutenants Currie and Campbell; our medical director Dr. Shea Duerring, M.D. and T. Hambright , our EMS Billing Specialist, attended the Alabama State EMS Conference this week where the quarterly State Emergency Medical Control Committee was also held in conjunction with the conference. Lieutenant McCullough represented Rocky Ridge Fire by attending this month’s Shelby County Fire and EMS meeting. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend.

Rocky Ridge Fire District Week in Review:
11/2/2024 through 11/8/2024

Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 70 alarms this week. Our OTM-RTC 2024 Recruit school concluded this week resulting in 28, seven from Rocky Ridge Fire, new AFC and Pro Board certified professional firefighters in central Alabama. A graduation ceremony and dinner was held on Thursday evening in their honor. On Monday, Chief Lord attended the Jefferson County Association of Fire Chiefs Meeting. On Tuesday, representatives from the Assisted Living Locators group brought lunch to our members and discussed how they help find the right fit for people moving into assisted living facilities. On Wednesday, Chiefs Lord and Bartlett attended the Central Alabama Fire Chiefs Association meeting. On-duty members, as always, spent much of their time taking care of our apparatus. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Veteran’s Day weekend.

Rocky Ridge Fire Units: Engine 101, Rescue 111 and District Chief 120; along with units from North Shelby Fire Department are working a head on collision on the Cahaba River Bridge on Caldwell Mill Road in the 4700 block. The bridge is completely closed due to wreck vehicles and debris. It will remain closed until the wreckage can be cleared.

Rocky Ridge Fire District Week in Review:
10/26/2024 through 11/1/2024

Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 60 alarms this week. Our recruits are doing well in rookie school. This week they incorporated all the skills they have learned so far into live fire training scenarios. On Monday, Dr. Duerring met with crews to review cases and conducted training diving deeper into 12 leads. On Tuesday, on-duty crews worked with both ladder trucks. Wednesday night, we had a full structure assignment sent to a working structure fire at the Kreekview Apartment Complex. This was a confirmed fire which included the dispatch of automatic companies as well as RRFD companies. In total the alarm yielded 5 engines, 3 ladders, 2 rescues, 2 battalion chiefs, a district chief and 3 fire chiefs. A special thanks to Vestavia Hills Fire and Hoover Fire for assisting on this incident. On Halloween evening, we had multiple crews out at Trunk-or-Treat events in our community. We hope everyone had a great Halloween and has a wonderful and safe weekend.

Rocky Ridge Fire Units: Engine 101, Engine 102, Ladder 121, Rescue 111, District Chief 120, Safety Officer 140, Fire Marshal 161 and Chief 100; along with automatic aid companies Vestavia Hills Fire Units- Engine 2, Engine 1, Ladder 1, Battalion 1 and Car 1; and, Hoover Fire Units- Engine 1, Truck 4, Battalion 1 and Car 100 are working a structure fire at Kreekview Apartments on Columbiana Road. The fire is currently under control, but fire units still have portions of Columbiana Road blocked as operations continue. Please be careful if you have to drive this area of Columbiana Road. Currently, there are no civilian or fire service injuries. 2 cats were rescued and appear in good shape. They have been reunited with their owner. Red Cross has been requested to assist displaced residents. Thank you to Vestavia Hills Fire Department and Hoover Fire Department for your assistance.

Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 72 alarms this week. Chief Bartlett returned from a week long deployment to Black Mountain, North Carolina. He was one of five team members from the Central Alabama Fire Chiefs Association's cook team, “Chief Grilldaddy and the Hose Draggers” that responded to a request for cooking assistance post hurricane Helene. The team cooked and prepared over 19,000 meals over their seven day deployment. Our seven recruits in rookie school worked on RIT and live fire scenarios this week. On Monday, on-duty crews worked with our special operations apparatus and equipment. Additionally this week, Ladder 121 and Ladder 122 received some work as well. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend.

Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 63 alarms this week. For this week, we want to highlight our newest promotions. Please congratulate our three new Lieutenants: Chase Laney, Ian McCullough and Shaun Parrott. Each of them worked very hard to pursue this opportunity.
Lieutenant Laney has over 16 years in the fire service and has been a paramedic since 2008. In 2008 he was recognized as Shelby County EMT of the year.
Lieutenant McCullough began with our department in 2015 and also works with the Vestavia Hills Fire Department. Lieutenant McCullough is also a licensed Paramedic.
Lieutenant Parrott has over 14 years experience in the fire service, holds an associate’s degree that he obtained in 2002 and is a current licensed Paramedic.
We look forward to the knowledge and experience they will bring in their new role for the department. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend.

Rocky Ridge Fire Units: Engine 101, Rescue 111, Rescue 112, Rescue 114, Haz-Mat 131, District Chief 120 and Chief 100; along with auto aid from Vestavia Hills Heavy Rescue 5, Battalion 1 and Car 1 are working a wreck on Interstate 459 between Interstate 65 and Acton Road involving multiple tractor trailer trucks and several vehicles. Both lanes of the Interstate are closed.
This wreck involved one extrication and several minor injuries.

Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 61 alarms this week. Chief Jon Lord attended and spoke at this year’s Alabama Firefighter’s Memorial Service. On Tuesday, our lettering vendor installed the stripes and lettering on our new District Chief vehicle. Also on Tuesday, the Alabama Department of Public Health, Office of EMS came by to inspect all of our Advanced Life Support EMS units. All units passed their inspection. Thursday night, Chief Michael Bartlett and our Medical Director, Dr. Shea Duerring, attended the annual Birmingham Regional EMS System - BREMSS's awards banquet. We heard from the keynote speaker, Alabama Senator Garlan Gudger. Additionally, Dr. Duerring received an award for implementing the first county wide pre-hospital whole blood program in the State of Alabama. Our recruits in our Over The Mountain Regional Training Center recruit school continue to do well as they finished up extrication, salvage and overhaul classes this week. Students also heard from Tracie Blackmon who spoke on su***de prevention. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend.

Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 63 alarms this week. This is SCBA consumption week for our candidates in our recruit school. This week puts all their skills learned so far to work in a very physically demanding way. Our on-duty members have been busy as Fire Prevention month has begun. Crews will spend time this month visiting our schools, day cares and MDO programs teaching young students about fire prevention and demonstrating some of our equipment. On Wednesday, Chief Lord, Chief Bartlett and Chief Loux attended the monthly CAFCA meeting. Our members did great work this week in detailing our apparatus and equipment. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend.

Rocky Ridge Fire District Week in Review:
9/21/2024 through 9/27/2024

Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 62 alarms this week. Congratulations to our newest state certified Apparatus Operator (Pumper), Carson Miller. Carson received his certificate and was issued his Apparatus Operator challenge coin by Chief Lord. Monday through Wednesday, Dr. Duerring conducted our yearly Advanced Cardiac Life Support updates and training. This covered all the changes that have been made this year regarding cardiac resuscitation. Our seven recruits are doing well in recruit school. This week they focused on hose, nozzles and fire streams. Deputy Fire Marshal Crumpton attended the International Fire Marshal’s Association’s in state training update class which dealt with National Fire Code changes that occurred this year and advancements in fire investigation. On Friday, Chief Bartlett and Captain Crumpton completed demonstrations in fire safety with some great Pre-K students. Additionally on Friday, we were honored to have Ladder 122 and Engine 101 take part in the Briarwood Homecoming Parade. Ladder 122 had the privilege to carry the Grand Marshals of the parade, Mr. Bill and Mr. Walt. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend.
