Rocky Ridge Fire District Week in Review:
7/3/2021 through 7/9/2021

Rocky Ridge Fire District responded to 78 alarms this week. We hope everyone had a nice Independence Day holiday. Our very busy week included a visit from a youngster who came by to see the fire truck as he plans to be a firefighter when he grows up. Tuesday, crews spent time with both ladder trucks putting them through their paces. We held a belated birthday celebration for Fire Chief Lord. Wednesday, Chief Lord and Chief Bartlett attended the monthly CAFCA meeting. We had a surprise visit on Thursday from Palmetto GBA, the Medicare contractor for Alabama. From their recent fundraiser, they chose a fire department to make a donation to and the picked Rocky Ridge FD Station 1. We received a plethora of items including: goodie bags, kitchen utensils, pizza warmers, bunches of snacks and other items. Thank you so much to the Palmetto GBA team. Also on Thursday, our fire chief presented District Chief Lord a letter of appreciation from Chief Kimmerling of Orange Beach Fire Department for his work and assistance he provided during Hurricane Sally. Our bay painting project continues on Station 1’s bays. We hope you have a safe and wonderful weekend!

Over 2” of rain has already fallen in the Birmingham Metro Area today and severe flash flooding is occurring all over the area. We have been upgraded from a Flash Flood Warning to a Flash Flood Emergency. There is a larger rain event expected in the next few hours. This will cause re-flooding of areas where flood waters have already receded and an increase to the flooding potential on roadways. We already have many areas of surface flooding on roadways. Please stay off the roadways and avoid any areas where water covers the roadway.
