We're hitting the trails again!

Join Home Trust of Skagit at Little Mountain Loop Park on Tuesday, September 8, from 11 AM - 3 PMfor a day of hiking, community, and Hiking for Housing.

Already registered? Come by anytime during the afternoon for a drop-in hike. Bring a friend, get some miles in, and let us cheer you on!

Not registered yet? We'll have registration available on site, so you can join Hiking for Housing and start your September adventure.

We'll also have participant goodies available for registered hikers.

No big expedition required. Come on out, enjoy the trail, and hike in support of permanently affordable homeownership in Skagit County.

It's Kickoff Day!
Join us today from 11-4 for our kickoff event for Hiking for Housing, our month long fundraiser supporting permanently affordable homeownership in Skagit County.

We'll be set up at the trailhead of the Oyster Dome for in person sign ups, and for our already registered participants to drop by and grab their water bottle.

🏡 Why Housing Matters

Housing is more than a place to live. A stable, secure home provides a foundation from which individuals and families can build their futures. It can create greater financial stability, provide consistency for children and families, and give people the opportunity to establish lasting roots in their community.

For many households, however, the cost of homeownership has moved beyond what is realistically attainable. When homeownership is out of reach, families have fewer opportunities to build equity, establish long-term financial security, and remain in the communities where they live and work.

This is where Home Trust of Skagit’s mission comes in. As a Community Land Trust, Home Trust works to create and steward permanently affordable, owner-occupied housing in Skagit County. The goal is not simply to make a home affordable for one household, but to preserve that affordability so the home can continue providing an opportunity for future homeowners.

Affordable homeownership creates more than housing. It creates stability, security, and an opportunity to build a future.

🏡What does permanently affordable homeownership mean?

One of the distinguishing features of the Community Land Trust model is its focus on preserving affordability over time. When a home is sold, traditional market conditions can cause an affordable home to become unaffordable to the next buyer. Community Land Trusts address this by retaining ownership of the land and establishing long-term agreements that include resale provisions designed to preserve the home's affordability for future income-qualified buyers.

For Home Trust of Skagit, this means that a community investment in affordable homeownership can continue to benefit Skagit County households beyond the first homeowner. As one homeowner builds equity and eventually moves on, the home can remain part of the community's permanently affordable housing supply.

This long-term stewardship is at the core of the Community Land Trust model: creating homeownership opportunities today while preserving those opportunities for future generations.
