Why Electrical Circuits are Like the Checkout Line - Tutor.com

GOOD NEWS! Tutor.com expanded eligibility for ALL dependents (including spouses and college aged children and now even those of DoD Civilians) continues through 2021!

You have probably heard of Tutor.com/military but what's the big deal? How can they help a student UNDERSTAND their subject while working over the computer? Here is an example of how a tutor might help a student better understand parallel and serial circuits in science. Heck, it might even help a parent understand it like they never did in school! https://tutor.com/resources/why-electrical-circuits-are-like-the-checkout-line--11389

What is the difference between series and parallel circuits? Why do they behave differently? This analogy will help you know.

Former Onslow County Schools Board Chairman Ms. Pam Thomas was always a friend to military children and a strong advocate for education. Her absence will leave a hole in our community and the Onslow County Schools family. Our deepest sympathies to her friends and families on her passing. #COVID19

STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF FORMER OCS BOE CHAIR PAM THOMAS
Onslow County Schools, December 20, 2020 — On behalf of Onslow County Schools and the Onslow County Board of Education, we mourn the passing of former Board of Education Chair Pam Thomas. Our sincere condolences to her family and all those she taught and coached, and who served with her during her time with the school system and on the Board of Education, or those who knew her for her work as a passionate advocate for the children of our county.
Ms. Thomas embodied the idea of leadership, and selflessly gave of her time and effort to support our school system, our students and staff, and children across the county.
She could always be counted on to be present at as many school events as possible. If there was a performance, recognition, or ceremony, she would be there to help with handing out the trophies and medals or just be a friendly face in the audience. In addition to attending events, she spent many years as moderator of the OCS Elementary Academic Derby.
Her passion for this county was embodied in her 35 years working for OCS, and through her time as a member of the Board of Education, from her first election in 2004, and her service as Chair from 2010 through this year.
OCS Superintendent Dr. Barry Collins, says, “I had the opportunity to work closely with Ms. Thomas, and found her to be an excellent leader who worked cooperatively with our state and local elected officials for the betterment of our school system.”
“All who worked with Pam appreciated her support for our school family. She loved this school system, the teachers, the staff, and most of all, the students. Pam was a true servant leader who always put the needs of our children first. Her passing is a great loss for not only the school system, but for the entire county. She will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time as we remember and celebrate her dedication to this community.”

Tuesday night's Onslow County Schools board meeting has been postponed until Tuesday, Dec 15 due to impacts from Covid. Three new school board members will be sworn in at that time.

The Onslow County Board of Education meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, has been postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
The health and safety of the OCS school community is our highest priority. Over the weekend we were informed that individuals who would be a part of Tuesday’s scheduled December BOE meeting have been exposed to, or tested positive for, COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution for our Board members, staff, those interested in attending the meeting, and their families, postponing the December meeting is the safest course of action.

Wishing you all a safe and joyous Holiday!
