The Rotary Club of Carmel was founded in 1972 and continues to represent the highest ideals of Rotary International through its service-oriented programs both at home and abroad. Our club contributes to many worthwhile community projects and provides the leadership for CarmelFest, our community's annual 4th of July celebration. We also hold an annual Freedom Ball leading up to CarmelFest celebrati

ons that has quickly become "Carmel's Premiere Social Event of the Year". We also participate in the Carmel Farmers Market by providing a coffee, doughnuts and refreshments booth for visitors. We are also involved in community service projects around the globe, such as contribting to the huge effort of Rotary International to wipe out Polio from the earth, eliminate illiteracy in many countries, and provide clean safe drinking water to poor people on many continents. We have been active for many years in the Youth Exchange Program in which we host incoming high school students from abroad and sponsor outbound local high school students from our area to countries around the globe.

Rotary’s night to help at Merciful H.E.L.P. Center was quite busy. Lots of families needing assistance with food. Plus so many generous friends and neighbors have been dropping off extra stuff to help the flood victims. The normal drop off room was full so people left things on the sidewalk. We also helped organize and bring food, housewares, cleaning supplies, clothing, bedding and towels into the warehouse.

At our club meeting on Friday, August 21st, fellow Carmel Rotarians Mayor Sue Finkam and Fire Chief Joel Thacker briefed members about the disastrous flooding Carmel experienced, the emergency response, next steps, and how we can help.

On August 15 -18, 2026, central Indiana experienced historic flooding that engineers are now calling a 1,000-year catastrophic event. After 15 inches of rain fell north of Carmel and Hamilton County, the resulting flooding has been devasting, but the response is heroic, ingenious, extraordinary, and heartwarming.

The mayor and chief recognized many who spent countless hours responding, donating, and volunteering, including Martin Marietta, American Structurepoint, Gradex, Thieneman (Utilities), Woolpert, CrossRoad Engineers, P.C., Burgess & Niple, US Aggregates, State of Indiana GIO; Cities of Noblesville, Indianapolis, Fishers, Westfield, Town of Rocky Ripple, and Township Trustees; Northview Church, BJ's Wholesale, Baker Hill, Rick Griskie, Kincaid's Meat Market, SERVE Village; Bickford Carmel; all first responders, Fishers Police Dept, Westfield Fire Dept, Hamilton County Emergency Management, National Weather Service, IN Dept of Homeland Security, US Army Corps of Engineers, and many, many others!

Recovery is a team effort. It’s ongoing and will be for a long time.

THANK YOU to everyone working tirelessly to ensure safety, restore infrastructure, and to help those desperately needing our help!

Rotary Club of Camel provides Community Service Grants

Recently, The Children's TherAplay's Development Manager, Katie Stratman, shared with the club how the recent grant helped fund a wide walkway from the main building to the barn, making it much easier and smoother to transport children using walkers and wheelchairs to where the hippotherapy takes place.
