Big shoutout to everyone who came out to Touch a Truck last month! It was awesome seeing so many families exploring, learning, and just having a great time together.

Huge thanks to the Castle Rock Police Department for putting on such a fun event. Our team had a blast hanging out with the kids, chatting with parents, and showing off some of our cool patrol vehicles and our firefighting helicopter that has been very busy this summer.

We love events like this! They’re a perfect reminder of how strong our community partnerships are. Can’t wait to do it again!

"Good Grapple, good Grapple." That’s what we like to hear! 🚘💥

Early Sunday morning, our deputies responded to assist the Castle Rock Police Department with a fleeing robbery suspect. Thanks to a quick response and precise ex*****on, our teams successfully deployed the Grappler Police Bumper to end the pursuit safely.

One suspect tried to run but was caught after a short foot chase. Both suspects were taken into custody without further incident. Outstanding teamwork by all officers and deputies involved! 🚔👏

In observance of the Labor Day holiday, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office public lobbies at the main office in Castle Rock and the substation in Highlands Ranch will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Dispatchers, patrol, and detention deputies will be on duty 24/7. If you need assistance, call our non-emergency number at 303-660-7500 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Do not drive yourself to jail under the influence!

You can't make this up!! Recently, deputies contacted a woman who drove to the Justice Center to turn herself in and allegedly showed signs of intoxication.

Before a breathalyzer test, deputies conduct a strict 20-minute observation period to ensure an accurate reading. Hers took a little longer.

According to the report in this case, "The first 20-minute deprivation period was unsuccessful because (the suspect) burped."

She later completed a breath test that measured .187, more than twice the legal limit of .08.

If you need to turn yourself in, please plan ahead. Get a ride, use a rideshare, or ask someone you trust for help. Now this suspect faces additional charges.

*All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

This week is National Crime Prevention Week!

Did you know the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has a dedicated crime prevention unit working year-round to educate and keep our community safe?

Corporal McKnight oversees the Community Resource Unit and focuses on the Special Olympics. He even created the Unified Law Enforcement Academy, giving athletes an inside look at real police training.

Our Neighborhood Watch educator, Deputy Nicola, spends her time connecting with residents across the county. She shares crime prevention tips and helps neighbors work together with law enforcement to keep their community safe.

Deputy Belsey focuses on business and faith-based community safety, providing security surveys and training to help large gathering spaces stay prepared and protected.

And Deputy Falkner, alongside Senior Resource K9 Leo, works closely with older adults, teaching about scams and personal safety to help individuals stay independent and informed.

When we say bears are showing up everywhere, we mean it! 🐻

Check out this curious visitor who recently wandered up to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office jail entry gate. Fortunately, our detention center is SO secure...he couldn't get in!

Our team had quite the laugh when Commander Simonich joked that Boo‑Boo was trying to check in for a stay and Yogi must have dropped him off. 😂

With more bears moving into neighborhoods this season, remember to stay bear aware:
• Secure trash and remove food attractants.
• Keep doors and garages closed.
• Give bears space and never approach them.
