Join us tomorrow at Ninigret park for the Earth Day celebration following the deer foot 5k. Free plants and a giveaway at our table. All you need to do is come say hi.

On this day 90 years ago, Narragansett Tarzan Brown won the 1936 Boston Marathon. ๏ฟผIt is a good day to remember all of his accomplishments and also to remember the man who made not only the Narragansett people proud, but made all of Rhode Island proud!

Love is in the air โ€” and so are pollinators! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ
โ€จThis February, show your love for nature just like you show love for the special people in your life. Join us at Norman Bird Sanctuary for Saving Our Pollinators: The Hidden Threat of Artificial Light on Thursday, Feb 26th, 5:30โ€“7:00pm.

Weโ€™re honored to welcome Dr. Avalon Owens from Harvard, a leading expert studying the effects of artificial light on insects, to unpack how light pollution is disrupting the tiny heroes of our ecosystems and why simple changes at home can make a BIG difference. โœจ

๐ŸŒ™ Bonus: After the talk weโ€™ll be stargazing on the Studio lawn โ€” telescopes ready for views of the Moon, Jupiter & more!

Hello!
The first round of meadow restoration for Pawaget park will happen this winter! December 2025
With work going through February 2026.
-
Charlestown DPW will chip piles.
-
Invasive and native shrubs to be removed to restore the rare grassland ecosystem.
-
This grassland ecosystem supports a few rare species of plants. That are being crowded out as the park becomes a shrubland.
Shrubs lands support more ticks than grasslands. By restoring this back to grassland tick load in the area will reduce.
There will also be an increase in pollinators as there will be more flowers.

Looking for volunteers!
Westerly Land Trust has a large crew that will join us.
Ill also be donating 1000$+ of time from the WilderGardensLLC crew on this project.

Work includes:
Lopping, chainsawing, hedgetrimmer, cutting and piling of shrubs and small trees.

Volunteers can work however long they like.
Ill be working around 6-8. The more the better but even an hour of cutting helps!

Tools to bring:
Loppers
Pruners
Tri-blade w**dwacker
Hedge trimmer
Shears
Pruners
Handsaws
Chainsaws
Water
Snacks
Gloves
Warm clothes
Work boots

Work will be scheduled by December. Likely on a weekday or weekend.
Volunteers can start work anytime, cutting and piling along trails. (Keep out from middle of trail)

Depending on the amount of volunteers we should be able to complete the entire meadow within 3 days.

Milkw**d doesnโ€™t just raise monarch caterpillarsโ€”it kills invasive lanternflies.

Monarchs can eat milkw**d safely, storing its chemicals like living armor that makes them unappealing to predators. Lanternflies? Studies show 60โ€“80% die within 24 hours of contact with common milkw**d (SARE Project LNE25-494R).

That matters when lanternflies are costing the U.S. hundreds of millions in crop damage every year.

One plant, two missions: feeding monarchs and fighting pests. Sometimes, the best pest control is already blooming in your garden. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ’€
