Day 2 Storm Update: It is going to be another long day for your DPW crews and 1st Responders. Police, Fire and Rescue crews were out checking on elderly residents last night and DPW will be continuing working to open up neighborhoods today but it is going to be a slow process. Please check on your neighbors and make sure everyone in your immediate area is safe. For any non-emergency concerns, please call the routine line at Police Headquarters. 401-364-1212. We will try to give you the best info we have. Picture is what most of the neighborhood roads in town look like right now. Please be safe and careful today and we will update later on.

This morning, CFD & Charlestown Ambulance Rescue Service took advantage of the “calm before the storm” to train on Ice Rescue techniques. Members of both agencies utilized their equipment (Rescue Sled, Mustang Suits, Etc.) to practice safely retrieving a “victim” that fell through the ice. Both agencies are dispatched to all Ice & Water Rescues within the Charlestown Fire District. This training provided a great opportunity to share techniques and better understand each others equipment, procedures & capabilities.

The Charlestown Fire District is actively monitoring an incoming Winter Storm that is forcasted to bring large ammounts of snow and wind Sunday into Monday. Our area is currently under a “Winter Storm Watch”, but that may be upgraded today or tomorrow. Parts of CT are already under a “Blizzard Warning”.

Officials are watching the timing of this storm. There is still some uncertainty when on Sunday evening this storm will begin. Please be prepared for extremely poor road conditions (stay off the roads if possible), as well as for the potential of power outages and below-freezing temperatures.

Today, members of the Charlestown Fire District were dispatched mutual-aid to Richmond for a working residential structure fire. E 813 & T 715 responded directly to the scene, while E 713 established a water supply for the incident. Nice job to all CFD members and all of our mutual-aid partners.
