Women United - Charlottesville

Women United - Charlottesville Women United is a program of United Way of Greater Charlottesville. We've accomplished all this through the power of collective giving.

Through collective and strategic giving and thoughtful action, Women United empowers and uplifts organizations supporting women and/or children in the Greater Charlottesville community. Women United in Philanthropy has awarded over $640,000 in nonprofit grants since its inception in 2005. Collectively, our members have impacted thousands of women and children in our community through our support o

f local non-profits that provide education, advocacy, housing, medical & mental health services, and even food, for women and children in our community who need it the most. Every dollar we give is from membership of local women who want to make a difference. Help us magnify our impact in our Community! Membership is open and accepted year-round.

Join us for a screening of No Country for Mothers and a panel discussion on Wednesday, September 30 at 5:30pm at Violet Crown. Hosted by Women Advancing and Women United, the film looks at the lack of support for American families and the movement to change that.

Afterward, a panel of local voices will discuss what that support could look like here in Charlottesville. Open to everyone, not just parents!

Tickets are limited. Ticket price includes popcorn and a drink, and proceeds benefit Women United’s grantmaking for local women and children.

Hopecam received a 2025 Women United Grant in support of their mission to create a better quality of life for children with cancer by virtually connecting them with their classmates and peers. Earlier this year, we received an update about the impact of this grant funding.

We heard about Andre and Ali, both local children with cancer who received technology from Hopecam. Andre is a brave 5-year-old who received his very own tablet in his Get Connected bag. Ali is a brave 12-year-old whose Get Connected bag had a Chromebook and everything he needs to stay connected with his classroom.

It is truly incredible when we receive updates like this about the impact of our grantmaking efforts. Thank you to Hopecam and to Women United members, whose contributions help make more stories like this possible!

Last week, Women United members volunteered to help fill backpacks for distribution at Albemarle Foundation for Education's Back to School Bash! This was a phenomenal event where local families received backpacks filled with essential school supplies and other community resources. 🎒🍎

We had so much fun preparing backpacks and spending time giving back to our community. Thank you to all the Women United members who participated!

Did you know today is World Doll Day? When we learned about this holiday, we couldn't help but remember the "Barbies, Belles and Beliefs" event we had this past spring, where attendees brought dozens of dolls to donate to local childcare centers!

It was such a special experience to drop off all of these toys knowing they will bring so much joy to local students. Is one of your favorite dolls in the photo?
