🎉New collection alert!🎉

If you've ever been in Szot Park and noticed the sign for WT2c Ogrodnik Drive and wondered how to learn more about him, here's your answer: the Ogrodnik Collection now held at the Chicopee Public Library in the Chicopee Room (also on our digital archive here: https://www.chicopeepubliclibrary.org/archives/collections/show/47).

Francis Ogrodnik was a Chicopee resident who served in the Navy in WWII, and was tragically killed when a plane struck his ship, the USS Witter. His family generously donated materials put together by his brother, Joseph Ogrodnik Jr., to remember Francis and the people he served with. The collection includes photographs, letters, articles, and more.

The Chicopee Room houses materials related to the history of Chicopee, and is open to the public whenever the Library is, no appointment needed! Come hold history in your hands.

Hello Facebook Friends!

We had a very interesting request from a patron looking for people who were involved in Operation Little Vittles (aka The Berlin Airlift) (aka Candy Bomber). If you or any of your family members participated in this historical event, please contact the library so we can put you in touch with the researcher who grew up in West Berlin and is working on a project to preserve the memories of people who were there.

Check out our Digital Archive to learn more about how Chicopee participated in this goodwill mission to drop candy to German children during the Berlin Airlift of 1948-1949.

Tonight our speed puzzling event was a battle well fought between two competing teams! Team A won with a time of 50 minutes and 51 seconds. Team B had a valiant time of 1 hour and 42 minutes.

Join us for our finale celebration for the Summer Reading season. Wednesday, August 12. Start with Ice Cream with Mayor Vieau from 1:30-2:30 and stick around to play on an inflatable obstacle course, read a storywalk, and draw with chalk from 2-4. All are welcome!
