Nobody knows Federal records better than NARA's Federal Records Centers Program. Since 1950, we have safeguarded the nation's records, including citizen tax returns, Official Military Personnel Folders, passport applications, and Top Secret military records. Every day, NARA's Federal Records Centers deliver on the agency's mission to provide ready access to essential evidence. We are Federal employees who proudly serve our Federal customers. We help customers navigate the intricacies of Federal regulations to ensure that the Nation's records are protected and remain available for their scheduled life. * We maintain facilities that are fully compliant with regulations that protect records from fire, theft, pests, water damage and natural disasters. * We provide high-quality, cost-effective storage and servicing of records for our Federal customers. * We are developing state-of-the-art technology to ensure that we will be able to continue to serve Federal agencies' needs for electronic records management in the digital era.

NARA has closed the Washington National Records Center (WNRC) in Suitland, MD, effective immediately and until further notice. Yesterday, the Governor of Maryland issued an order closing all non-essential businesses, organizations, and establishments. NARA is closing the WNRC in order to support local health agencies’ efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The National Archives building at College Park, MD, is essential to NARA's continued operations and will remain open with limited access for staff. All College Park employees with telework agreements are 100-percent teleworkers until further notice. Staff without telework agreements are being placed on enforced telework if they are capable of teleworking, and staff who cannot telework are being placed on weather and safety leave. We are taking these actions to protect staff from the potential spread of COVID-19 while maintaining mission-essential functions.

Until further notice, the College Park facility may be accessed by staff on a limited basis. Access is restricted to essential functions or purposes, and visits must be limited to the minimum amount of time necessary to accomplish essential tasks. Staff are permitted to return to the building and may be recalled for a variety of reasons, including time and attendance reporting, receiving a new laptop, or picking up additional assignments or hard copy materials to continue telework. Staff are not permitted to report to the building to perform normal functions or activities for a full work day, unless directed to do so. Employees who require access to the building must coordinate with their supervisor before coming in.

NARA is taking these actions to protect our staff and support the public health agencies that are working to limit the spread of COVID-19. The best way for you to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to practice good health habits such as frequent hand washing, stay home from work and seek medical treatment if you are feeling ill, clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, and refrain from customary handshaking.

We are committed to the health and wellness of all NARA staff. We will provide you with updates and additional guidance as it becomes available.

The Washington National Records Center (WNRC) in Suitland, MD, will remain open with reduced hours.

NARA is closing our facilities in order to support local health agencies’ efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19. We will reassess the closures once we receive additional guidance. More information as available.

NARA has closed all facilities in California, effective immediately and until further notice. Last night, the Governor of California issued an order directing all individuals within the state to stay home except for essential services. NARA is closing our facilities there in order to support local health agencies’ efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19. This impacts the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, CA, the Richard M. Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, CA, and the Riverside Archives and Federal Records Center in Perris, CA. The San Bruno Archives and Federal Records Center in San Bruno, CA, was closed earlier this week and remains closed.

NARA has closed the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas, TX, for today, March 20, 2020. A facility occupant there has been potentially exposed to COVID-19. Although our staff are not experiencing any symptoms, we have decided to close the Library for today and over the weekend to deep clean the facility.

NARA has extended the closure of the National Archives in New York City until further notice. As announced in NARA Notice 2020-073, NARA originally closed the New York facility through today, March 20. This closure is now extended indefinitely.

NARA is taking these actions to protect our staff and support local public health agencies that are working to limit the spread of COVID-19. The best way for you to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to practice good health habits such as frequent hand washing, stay home from work and seek medical treatment if you are feeling ill, clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, and refrain from customary handshaking.

Because Seattle has an active community spread of COVID-19, we are closing the facility for 48 hours to deep clean the office space and high-touch common areas. We continue to monitor the situation in King County, WA, and will change the operating status if there is a change in health status of our employees there.

NARA is taking these actions to protect our staff and support local public health agencies that are working to limit the spread of COVID-19. The risk of contracting COVID-19 remains low. The best way for you to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to practice good health habits such as frequent hand washing, stay home from work and seek medical treatment if you are feeling ill, clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, and refrain from customary handshaking.

Did Pelosi just commit a federal felony on live TV??? Did you notice how Nancy Pelosi disrespectfully tore up the copy of the State of the Union report that President Trump delivered to her, in her capacity as Speaker of the House? I believe that document is an official transmission of his report to the House of Representatives, which he is constitutionally required to deliver to her, at which time it becomes an official record of Congress, and that it falls under the purview of federal records preservation laws, which make the willful mutilation, destruction, etc. of such records a crime, the penalty for which is up to 3 years in prison, loss of office, and being barred from holding any federal office in the future. The following is a screenshot of (just one of) the sections of the relevant federal laws, taken from the website of Cornel Law School’s Legal Information Institute website at https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/2071 (Other sections may also be applicable)
Hi-- I am hoping to locate photos of my father, who is a Korean War veteran. Do you have any suggestions on where and how to start? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Looking for good things to happen!
