Lots of cool birds to see in the park. Bring some binoculars with your next visit.

Ute Pass and many other Colorado highways follow former Nuu-ciu (Ute) trails. In 1912, the El Paso County Pioneers Association invited Chief Buckskin Charley and 75 other members of the Southern Ute Tribe to mark the trail from Lost Creek to Manitou Springs.

Can you believe we get this scenery right here in our backyard?! 🤩
Winterfat really stands out this time of year. The common name comes from the fact that it helps provide food for herbivores during winter. This small shrub can live to 130 years!

There are so many sights to see here. Sunsets, Pikes Peak - America's Mountain, ancient one-seed junipers, and lime stone rock from a long past ocean.
A great capture by Daniel Forster Photography.
I haven't been out for a good sunset in a bit. So here is one from last May over Pikes Peak - America's Mountain that I shot from Garden of the Gods Park

Garden of the Gods is one of many amazing parks in the City of Colorado Springs system. Our department (Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services ) has received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services department consistently strives for excellence in our service to the community. Tonight, we were recognized for our work by achieving national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Colorado Springs is one of just 186 agencies nationwide out of 23,000 eligible agencies to achieve this milestone. In Colorado, we are one of only 10 agencies accredited by CAPRA.
We are honored to join our esteemed peers in this achievement as we continue to provide world-class amenities and experiences for all residents and visitors.

Early Bird Hike and Bike Event
Early Bird Hike and Bike events allow participants to enjoy the Park without the noise and disturbance of motor vehicles.
The next event is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 5-8 a.m.
This is a unique way to experience the park without the noise and disturbance of motor vehicles which are not allowed in the park during this time.
Cyclists, joggers, runners, hikers, skaters and other are encouraged to take advantage of the open roads. Due to safety concerns during this scaled event, skateboarding and longboarding is not allowed.
All normal park rules will be in place, including speed limits (please take it easy on the hills!), and visitors are asked to follow public health guidelines like practicing physical distancing and wearing a face covering when a minimum of 6 feet can’t be maintained.
Black Bears occasionally visit the park as well. They tend to avoid people however. Early mornings and late evenings usually provide the best wildlife viewing.

Ram Knocking On Your Door
Volume on! A local ram seen in our Park decided to knock on one of our volunteer's home. Clearly promoting our Bighorn Sheep Day event on Sat., Feb. 15th at 10 - 3:00 pm.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snooow. Snow fall right now.
"What's the black and white bird with the long tail?"
This is one of our most frequently-asked questions at Garden of the Gods! Black-billed magpies are a common sight (and sound!) in our park. This magpie was filmed just outside the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center, where several pairs are building nests!
Spring Birds 2016
Another sign of spring- plenty of singing and tweeting birds! The warmer weather marks the return of many migratory birds to our park.
Happy World Snake Day! What a cool group of animals to celebrate! Earlier this week we spotted this guy while out on patrol- fortunately he was polite enough to let us know he was there!
Rattlesnakes are quite happy to leave us alone as long as we return the favor. Staying on the trail is the best way to avoid any surprise encounters where a snake might feel threatened.
This weekend, in the midst of all the excitement of the Visitor and Nature Center's 20th anniversary and new exhibits, a small drama was unfolding: A western scrub jay chased off a bull snake. This snake was around five feet in length (they can reach lengths up to eight feet)!
Fogg Clearing over GoG
Last Sunday, the fog lifting to reveal Pikes Peak almost made the park look like it was breathing. This timelapse was taken from the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center.
After a couple of tries, we finally got a nice sunset timelapse. As nice as it looks, it still isn't as stunning as seeing it in person.

The Gateway bridges are still hanging in there!
If you listen closely at the eight and fourteen second marks, you can hear boulders rolling along the bottom of the creek.

Want to help spread some Holiday Cheer? I'm the Activities Director here at Namaste. Our residents need some extra love this Holiday season.
What a nice November day to be out and about. Looking at the south gateway rock formation from the west side of it.
The planet's ecosystems face a serious threat from the effects of climate change and it's up to us to make a difference to reverse this fate. After I watched a Netflix documentary called "Kiss the Ground" I've recognized how I can use my voice to advocate for such positive change. The film highlights the simple solutions towards healing our planet and it provides such a positive voice to an existing issue. We all have the power to be part of the change, and I really think this film will impact our future in the greatest way possible. It's now available on Vimeo as well for anyone interested, let me know what you all think!

From my trip back in August.
Everytime I visit, I’m still in awe!
Definitely my FAVORITE place in Colorado🖤
If you have a photo of a Rocky Mountain bighorn, desert bighorn, Dall sheep, or Stone Sheep you have photographed please share with me. We'd love to send you one of these limited edition collector's coins. We know lots of people see wild sheep at Garden of the Gods.
Through Higher Calling Wildlife we are raising awareness of wild sheep in North America. We give wildlife encounters to children who have a critical illness, traumatic loss or are in the foster system. We are mentoring some of the teens in the program to become wildlife conservationists and this is our first project.
PM me (or email [email protected]) with the photo along with the state or province where it was taken and we will send you one of these limited coins from what we call our Sheep Scrapbook project. It'll mean a lot to us and the kids we work with and help #highercallingwildlife
I was just there this past Saturday and lost my Fitbit
