This Labor Day weekend, find a relaxing spot along one of our 27 scenic byways. The Miami and Erie Canal Byway in western Ohio takes you right by Lake Loramie State Park where you can enjoy hiking, boating, picnicking, and fishing. The byway follows the original 19th century Miami and Erie canal along SR 66.

Today is National Park Service Founder's Day!

On this day in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act, establishing the National Park Service to protect America's natural and cultural landmarks. We're fortunate to have Cuyahoga Valley National Park in our backyard here in northeast Ohio!

On December 27, 1974, President Ford authorized the Cuyahoga Valley as a national recreation area (CVNRA) after advocacy from community members, grassroot organizations and legislators like Congressman John Seiberling and Congressman Ralph Regula.

Paddle the Mad River along the Lower Valley Pike Scenic Byway! The river flows from Logan County through West Liberty, Urbana, and Springfield, ending at the Great Miami River in Dayton. Paddlers can enjoy its winding curves and scenic wooded corridors.

The Mad River is one of Ohio’s only cold-water streams as it’s fed primarily by groundwater. Rain and snowmelt travel deep underground through layers of sand, gravel, and limestone. By the time the water resurfaces, the earth has cooled and filtered it to a steady 50–55°F year-round.
