In a major victory for social workers, the Trump administration has dropped its appeal in a legal battle over Public Service Loan Forgiveness, preserving a court victory that protects social workers and other public servants from unlawful restrictions on the program. “Public Service Loan Forgiveness stands as Congress wrote it because we refused to let this Administration rewrite the rules,” said Anthony Estreet, PhD, MBA, LCSW-C, Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Social Workers. “This win means social workers can keep serving their communities without fear of losing the forgiveness they’ve earned. We fought for this program because it keeps talented people in public service,” he said. “Congress set the standard. The courts upheld it. Social workers can count on it.” NASW stood alongside a powerful coalition of nonprofit organizations, labor unions, and local governments to challenge rules that threatened to strip hardworking public servants of the student loan forgiveness they’ve earned.
