It is with grave sadness to announce the passing of Sgt. Joshua Boykin #8910. He succumbed to his injuries as a result from an off duty airplane crash in Forney, TX. He was a previous member of Dallas PD Traffic unit in the DWI enforcement squad, a motor jock, and finally as a Sergeant at Central Patrol Substation. He will be missed. The Honor Guard will do our part. Rest Easy. We have the watch from here.

Ernest E. Leonard, Jr. #51
End of Watch: May 28, 1935

Officer Ernest Leonard was killed in a motorcycle accident while attempting to catch a speeder near the intersection of South Denley Drive and Stella Avenue.

Officer Leonard had served with the Dallas Police Department for two years. He was survived by his parents, four brothers, and sister.

Cassee Odorous Brewer
End of Watch May 24, 1892

Officer Cassee Brewer was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man for slander at the Union Depot station.

While talking to the man the suspect pulled out a large caliber handgun and began firing, striking Officer Brewer. The suspsect was later apprehended and hung for the murder.

Officer Brewer had served with the Dallas Police Department for three years. He was survived by his wife and children and is buried at Trinity Cemetery.

John Richard Crain
End of Watch May 24, 1923

Officer John Crain was shot and killed at approximately 3:30 am while investigating suspicious activity.

While on patrol he noticed lights on in a pharmacy on Junius Road. As Officer Crain peered into the window a burglar inside shot him in the head with a .38 caliber handgun. Both subjects inside the store were also responsible for the murder of Officer Johnnie Gibson, using the same handgun, one month earlier in almost identical circumstances.

The subjects were both convicted of the murders and executed on March 28, 1924.

Honor Guard attended the street topper Ceremony for Bill Daugherty today

Today, the Dallas Police Department honored fallen Senior Corporal Bill "Doughboy" Daugherty, #3051, with a ceremonial street topper at East bound I-635 Service Road and Skillman Street.



On August 10. 1992 Senior Corporal Bill "Doughboy" Daugherty, #3051 who was assigned to the Traffic Unit, was working radar as element #974 for the National Maximum Speed Limit, merged in the eastbound lanes of the 9800 block of LBJ Freeway (I-635).



A speeder went by and Doughboy went to pull the vehicle over on his motorcycle. As he merged onto the freeway from the shoulder, Doughboy was thrown from his motorcycle caused by an uneven surface between the shoulder and the freeway from previous construction work.



He was transported to the hospital and ultimately passed due to his injuries on August 14, 1992.



During his tenure he received 40 police commendations, a Life Saving Bar, and was Officer of the Month in February of 1979.



Members of the command staff and the Department, along with members of Officer Daugherty's family were in attendance for the unveiling.

Police Officer Luke Bell, #153 – End of Watch: May 18, 1934

Officer Luke Bell was shot and killed with his own handgun after recapturing a prisoner who escaped his custody near the intersection of Elm Street and North Houston Street.

The officer was transporting three prisoners to jail when one fled. He caught up to the escapee, who put his hands up to surrender. However, the man grabbed Officer Bell's handgun and shot him in the side. The suspect was shot and wounded after a long police chase.

Officer Bell was a United States Army World War I veteran and had served with the Dallas Police Department for five years. He was survived by his wife, two brothers, and two sisters. He is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.

Today members of the Honor Guard attended the Ellis County Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony as the rifle team performing the 3 round volley of gunfire. We are always honored to help in any capacity when called upon.

The Honor Guard stood watch for the fallen at the wreath. The Honor Guard rotated with other Honor Guards from around the country every 10 minutes from 12pm to 12am today.
