Rotary Club of Dover NH

Rotary Club of Dover NH We meet on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday at 121 Broadway in Dover from 12:15 to 1:30. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.

If you would like to join us or have an idea for an upcoming program please contact Marion Cheney. Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 31,000 Rotary clubs located in 166 c

ountries. Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The Rotary Club of Dover holds weekly meetings each Wednesday at 12:15pm and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. The main objective of Rotary is service โ€” in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. Although Rotary clubs develop autonomous service programs, all Rotarians worldwide are united in a campaign for the global eradication of polio. In the 1980's, Rotarians raised US$240 million to immunize the children of the world; by 2005, Rotary's centenary year and the target date for the certification of a polio-free world, the PolioPlus program will have contributed US$500 million to this cause. Part of the proceeds from the Dover Dancing Bears will fund Dover Rotary Charity Projects such as PolioPlus, the shoe and boot fund, Senior Visits, the Milk Fund, Back to School Project and more than $10,000 in local scholarships.

Inspiring Our Next Generation of Leaders ๐ŸŒŸ

At our recent Dover Rotary meeting, we had the pleasure of hearing from two impressive student presenters, Angie Cox and Dannilyn Somers, who shared how Rotary has helped support their educational and leadership journeys.

Angelina โ€œAngieโ€ Cox, a Dover Rotary scholarship recipient, is entering her third year at Northeastern University in Boston. A Dover High School graduate and former Interact Club president, Angie is majoring in biology on the pre-med track and recently completed an internship at Brigham & Womenโ€™s Hospital.

In addition to her studies, Angie serves as a magazine editor, is a member of Alpha Phi Omega community service fraternity, and this fall will be a teaching assistant for a general biology course. She shared her appreciation for Rotary not only for the financial support toward her education, but also for helping instill the community service values she continues to carry with her.

We also welcomed Dannilyn Somers, who shared her experiences attending RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) this summer as well as the HOBY World Leadership Congress in Washington, D.C., both with support from Dover Rotary.

Danni spoke about how these experiences strengthened her leadership and collaboration skills. At the HOBY World Leadership Congress, she joined approximately 250 students from across the country and experienced an incredible sense of community, acceptance, and accomplishment. She expressed her gratitude to Dover Rotary for making it possible for her to participate in two experiences she described as truly life-changing.

We are incredibly proud to support young people like Angie and Danni as they continue to learn, lead, serve, and make a difference in their communities.

Investing in our youth is an investment in the futureโ€”and we are excited to see where their journeys take them!

Getting to Know Our Rotary Members โ€” Meet Ron Walton!

At our recent Rotary Club meeting, members and guests had the opportunity to learn more about one of our newest members, Ron Walton, and ask questions about his professional work, passions, and life outside of Rotary.

One word sums up Ron: boats! He began boatbuilding in 1976 and hasnโ€™t stopped. From small wooden boats to a 160-foot wooden yacht, Ron has worked on the construction of 37 boats. He currently owns seven boats and is a member of the Great Bay Yacht Club. Each year, he cruises the Maine coast from July 15 through August 15โ€”so donโ€™t try to reach him during that time!

Originally from Claremont, New Hampshire, Ron has also lived in Connecticut and New Jersey and served in the U.S. Navy. In addition to boatbuilding, he is a professional sign maker.

Ron and his wife of 16 years, Laurie McIntosh, have established the nonprofit foundation Our Place NH and are fundraising to create an independent-living home for adults with developmental disabilities.

We are grateful to have Ron as part of our Rotary family and look forward to learning more about his experiences, interests, and the perspective he brings to our club and community.

Welcome to Rotary, Ron! Service Above Self.

Getting to Know Our Rotary Members โ€” Meet Katie Soule!

At our recent Rotary Club meeting, members and guests had the opportunity to learn more about one of our newest members, Katie Soule, and ask questions about her professional work, passions, and life outside of Rotary.

Katie wears several impressive professional hats! She serves as Operations Director of the YMCA in Somersworth and Director of Social and Emotional Wellbeing for The Granite YMCA, supporting nine locations across the organization. She also contributes her expertise nationally as a Broadway Service Delivery Partner for YMCA of the USA and as part of a Mental Health Thought Leader Cohort with Y-USA.

But beyond her professional roles, Katie describes another important role: simply being a โ€œhuman being.โ€ She enjoys reading, journaling, reflecting, painting, coloring, puzzling, and planning family trips. She also loves exploring local trails and beaches with her husband and dog, spending time with her two younger siblings, and enjoying live music.

And her favorite treat? Strawberry-peanut butter ice cream!

Perhaps the best way to describe Katie is through her passion word: HOPE. Hope for young people, hope for those navigating mental health challenges, and hope for creating stronger, healthier communities.

We are grateful to have Katie as part of our Rotary family and look forward to the passion, experience, and hope she brings to our club and our community.

Welcome to Rotary, Katie! Service Above Self.

How it started ๐ŸŒฑ โ†’ How itโ€™s going ๐ŸŒธ

What a difference a little volunteer effort can make!
From the day we planted our Rotary Garden, to the beautiful, lush garden it has become, itโ€™s pretty amazing to see what can happen when people come together and get their hands dirty.
The Rotary Club of Dover is honored to play a role in the beautification of downtown Dover. This garden is a great reminder that when volunteers invest a little time, energy, and heart into their community, the results can literally blossom. ๐ŸŒบ
Weโ€™re pretty proud of how itโ€™s going! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›
