The Dover Police Department is an Internationally Accredited Law Enforcement Agency that has been found to be in full compliance with all of the professional standards established by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). CALEA is a non-profit agency founded in 1979 to establish a series of professional standards for law enforcement agencies throughout the world. The

Dover Police Department was the 62nd agency in the United States and the 1st New Hampshire Police Department to gain accredited status, and has been accredited since March, 1988. In addition to this distinction, the Dover Police Department was the first agency to be awarded the New Hampshire State Multi-Level Accredited status by the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council. The Dover Police Department provides Law Enforcement services to a growing community of just under 30,000 people. In an average year, the Police Department responds to over 27,000 calls for police service, makes over 1,140 arrests for criminal offenses and issues over 2,700 citations for traffic offenses. The City of Dover enjoys one of the lowest rates of serious crime in the entire region.

TRAFFIC ADVSIORY - SOAP BOX DERBY TODAY

Drivers should be aware that the New Hampshire Soap Box Derby is today, Sunday, May 31, 2026 from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM, impacting traffic in the area of Broadway, Oak Street, Portland Avenue, Hill Street, and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Dover Police Officers will be assigned throughout the event to assist with traffic control and detours.

TRAFFIC ALERT - SOAP BOX DERBY REMINDER

The New Hampshire Soap Box Derby is tomorrow, Sunday, May 31, 2026 from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

ROAD CLOSURES:
From 8:00 AM until approximately 4:00 PM, Broadway will be closed to all traffic between the intersections of Oak Street (at the Rollinsford town line) and Hill Street. All thru traffic will be diverted via neighborhood streets, including Park and Hill Streets. Oak Street itself will remain open.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS:
Effective at 6:00 AM on that date, on-street parking will be prohibited on Broadway in posted areas between Oak and Hill Streets. Residents with driveways on this section of Broadway, or on Rose Street, will not be able to access their driveways by car during this time period and must plan ahead to park on nearby side streets. Business located in 107-133 Broadway can still access the upper business parking lot from the Oak Street entrance.

Dover Police Chief David Terlemezian announces the following road closures, parking restrictions, and traffic detour information for the annual 82nd annual New Hampshire Soap Box Derby on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

The NH Soap Box Derby is an annual event for boys and girls ages 7 to 20 involving gravity-powered cars racing in side-by-side competition. Dover is the site of the 82nd annual New Hampshire local championship. Top seeded racers in each region are eligible to compete in the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio. TRAFFIC ADVISORY - DOVER ROAD RACE TODAY

Drivers should be aware that a road race will take place today between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, impacting traffic around St. Thomas Aquinas High School, to include: Royer Lane, Ayers Lane, New Bellamy Lane, and Spur Road.

Dover Police Officers will be assigned throughout the course to assist with traffic control and detours.

ROAD RACE REMINDER

The Captain Jack Casey Memorial 5K road race is tomorrow, Sunday, May 24, 2026 at 9:00 AM.

ROAD CLOSURES:
Between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
• Spur Road between New Bellamy Lane and Nute Road
• Royer Lane and Ayers Lane
• New Bellamy Lane westerly from Dover Point Road to Spur Road

COURSE:
The race is an out-and-back course that starts and finishes in the rear parking lot of St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Start in the rear parking lot of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, exit right onto Royer Lane, left onto Ayers Lane, follow Ayers lane as it turns left, sharp right onto New Bellamy Lane, through the tunnel under Route 16, right onto Spur Road, follow Spur Road north until turn around location, return south on Spur Road, left on New Bellamy Lane, sharp left onto Ayers Lane, follow Ayers lane as it turns right, right onto Royer Lane, left back into the finish line in the rear parking lot of St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

EVENT PARKING:
Participants should park at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

Dover Police Chief David Terlemezian announces the following partial street closing and traffic detour information for the Annual Hot Rod City Open House and Block Party event on Saturday, May 30, 2026. More information is available at www.hotrodcitynh.com/

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Oak Street will be closed to traffic coming from Gulf Road and Atlantic Avenue to Portland Avenue. Only vehicles accessing Oak Street from Portland Avenue will be permitted to travel through. Traffic coming from Gulf Road will be directed to use Atlantic Avenue in order to access Portland Avenue.

The open house event begins at 9:00 at Hot Rod City, located at 99 Oak Street. The road closure is to facilitate parking on Oak Street for attendees. Motorists may encounter traffic delays in the area of Oak Street, Portland Avenue, Gulf Road, and Atlantic Avenue. Detour signs and barricades will be in place.

In April, Dover Police officers responded to 1,812 calls for service, conducted 780 traffic stops, investigated 87 collisions, completed 579 reports, and made 72 arrests. Each of these numbers represents a moment where officers were called upon to protect public safety, provide assistance, and uphold the law.
