Today is National Quilting Day! Here are some ideas to celebrate the day.
Get Active and Sew
Finish a UFO (Unfinished Object): Tackle that project that has been sitting in a bin or, at the very least, organize your WIPs (Works in Progress).
Make a "Quick" Project: Sew a small project in a day, such as a table runner, mug rug, or a baby quilt.
Try a New Technique: Take an online class, watch a tutorial on a skill you’ve never tried (like paper piecing or wool applique), or learn to hand quilt.
Quilt All Day: Give yourself permission to ignore the to-do list and sew, guilt-free, while listening to a quilting podcast or audiobook.
Community and Sharing
Hang Quilts Outside: Display your quilts on porch railings, fences, or in windows for neighbors to enjoy.
Host a Scrap or Fat Quarter Swap: Invite friends over to trade fabric scraps or, if staying distant, host a swap via mail.
Teach Someone to Sew: Introduce a child, friend, or relative to the basics of quilting.
Make a Charity Quilt: Dedicate your time to sewing a quilt for a local charity, hospital, or shelter.
Organizing and Inspiration
Clean Your Machine: Show your sewing machine some love with a deep cleaning or take it in to be serviced.
Organize Your Stash: Go through your fabric, trim scraps into usable sizes, and donate fabric that no longer brings you joy.
Label Your Quilts: Take time to add labels to finished quilts to ensure their stories are preserved.
Visit a Quilt Shop or Museum: Support your local quilt store or explore a virtual exhibit at the International Quilt Museum.
