The Bucks County Department of Health (BCDH) Mosquito Disease Control Program will conduct an ultra-low volume (ULV) mosquito control operation on Monday September 14th at 7:30 PM in Middletown Township to reduce high populations of nuisance mosquitoes and mosquitoes capable of transmitting West Nile Virus.

🚗The treatment will be administered using truck-mounted equipment to treat mosquito habitats in residential neighborhoods and park areas. Trucks used during the application are identified by Bucks County seal logos displayed on the doors. The equipment dispenses Duet at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre. This product is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. The application has very low toxicity to mammals and is expected to have negligible impacts on non-target insects and the environment.

📍Treatments will occur in Middletown Township areas bounded by Township Line Rd., Big Oaks Rd., Woodbourne Rd., and Langhorne Yardley Rd.

Certain mosquito species can carry West Nile virus, which may cause West Nile encephalitis, an infection that results in inflammation of the brain. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, all residents in areas where virus activity has been identified are at risk of infection.

⛈Weather conditions and other unexpected events could delay or cancel this treatment operation. If conditions do not allow application on September 14th, Tuesday September 15th, will serve as the back-up treatment date.

Mosquitoes can breed in even small amounts of water found in items such as flowerpots, buckets, toys, and clogged gutters. Operations may extend into a second day and may also occur on Wednesday August 19th at 8:00PM in Warrington and Warminster Townships.

🚗The treatment will be administered using truck-mounted equipment to treat mosquito habitats in residential neighborhoods and park areas. Trucks used during the application are identified by Bucks County seal logos displayed on the doors. The equipment dispenses Duet at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre. This product is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. The application has very low toxicity to mammals and is expected to have negligible impacts on non-target insects and the environment.

📍Treatments will occur in Warrington Township areas bounded by Easton Rd. (611), Bristol Rd., Valley Rd., Palomino Dr., Philadelphia Ave., and Carriage Way.

📍Treatments will occur in Warminster Township areas bounded by Carousel Dr., Kemper Dr., W. Bristol Rd., Log College Dr., and Sinkler Rd. Areas bounded by Ivyland Rd., Mearns Rd., Orchard Ave., Mason Dr., Whittier Dr., Roberts Rd., York Rd., and Mueller Rd. will be treated. Additional areas bounded by S. Norristown Rd., Gladwyn Rd., Cypress Rd., York Rd., and W. County Line Rd. will be treated.

This event was a fantastic opportunity for our staff and volunteers to promote preparedness, public safety, and the MRC, and to strengthen our community ties.
